OK, I just got the bridge from Choppers'. Working out some QA details. Will be installing and testing this weekend. The odd thing is I can't find ANY documentation on this ANYWHERE. I see it's the same as on that Dean upright, but they don't talk about it either. Anybody have any leads?
That's the 5-string version of the same bridge. It feeds a JFET buffer and then goes into the balance pot with the mag pickup. It sounds great through the buffer but when I had it running straight into the balance pot it was 100% treble. As cool as that was for enhanced definition, etc. I would rather have a more full-range signal from it. BTW the piezo sound has lower lows than the mag pickup can manage, and not a whole lot more finger noise.
If you installed this bridge (or any piezo system really) on a fretless with tapewounds...wouldn't that eliminate pretty much all of the finger noise issues?
The tapewounds have their own slap signature on the fingerboard, and if you can't isolate the piezo sensor from the body, you will always get some neck noises. Not the end of the world, and you can filter at the mixer.
Anyone have any updates on these bridges? I will be needing a new bridge to replace the bent bridge on my bass and was considering one of these. I would love to hear what people think about the quality of the bridge itself mechanically. I was also worried that the bridge/saddles might kill the tone of the strings themselves. It would be nice to add a piezo but I don't want to compromise the underlying sound or reliability of the bass. Also are the saddles wired in parallel and in phase or some other way?
