eBay red flags

I would do nothing til the Korg arrives, you have to assess ship damage often 2 weeks before Xmas (i worked in receiving dept and watched 3 carriers drivers throw/kick/damage thousands of boxes ), or ask seller for photo of UPS/fedex shipping receipt with tracking #.

So I won a Korg Electribe.
The seller had zero sales
During the auction I feel like someone bidded me up he had zero feedback..
Then after the seller sent the item..
He messages me if I can leave feedback before I get the item..
I been doing this long enough..
This is making me nervous as heck..
I'm almost ready ready to tell him to forget it.. Am I wrong???
Definitely report that seller to ebay. My experience in the past has been that they took such reports seriously. I can't say about today though.

Either don't leave feedback until you get the item, or cancel the order if you want & ebay allows. You don't need to respond to the seller or justify your decision to them. You don't owe them anything. Whether you wait or cancel is up to you.

If you're inclined to cancel the order, your gut might be telling you something. You can find a Korg Electribe for a decent price again if you really want one. It's not a rare item. You're not desperate to have one right this moment (i'm guessing). I can't decide for you whether you should just wait for the Korg to arrive or tell him forget it... but you're not wrong at all in wanting to.

Since eBay hold funds until the goods are received by the buyer how do you see this 'scam' working ?
Seller sends box filled with trash or the wrong item. When that box is marked delivered by the courier, eBay deems it delivered and completes the transaction. EBay only knows that the seller has shipped a box to the buyer. They don't know what's inside it.

Now the buyer has to prove that the box showed up empty/with the wrong items, which might be hard to do without recording the unboxing process, and has to fight to get their money back. Once the box is already opened, the seller/eBay could claim you took the item out and then put your own trash in the box.

The Invalid Link Removed has been around for a long time. Either sellers sending empty/trash filled boxes, or buyers falsely claiming receiving empty boxes or the wrong item or trash filled boxes.

Getting your money back is always harder than preventing the money from going in the first place.

Just wait and see if it arrives and if it’s what you ordered, then leave feedback. If it doesn’t arrive, eBay will refund you. But obviously don’t leave positive feedback until you have the item or eBay will wonder who the crook is when you ask for a refund. The fact that he’s asking for feedback in advance is pretty weird for eBay, I buy a lot there and haven’t seen that. But also never been scammed there.

I’d wait. How can you leave an honest review before you have something in hand to do a review of?

Also, if there is a problem with what you receive, it becomes much harder to ask to do a return after you’ve left a positive review. A positive review means you’re completely happy with what you got - end of story.

Patience. You'll get the item soon enough and be able to leave feedback. Can a seller even leave bad feedback on a buyer? I thought that stopped years ago. Look at the other items the seller has for sale. If they're only selling the Electribe, it's very unlikely that they're going to scam on a ~ $400 item. Scammers are going to sell you 1965 Precision that ends up being a Squier.

So I have some very bad anxiety, some bad doom thinking thoughts. I would be nervous and before even getting in part of the bid/contest I would research the seller.

But here is my other point, on Reverb I started out as a zero star review seller, I did make my profile presentable to be fair, sold three items and all those buyers gave me a fair chance and left me good reviews to help.

We all been there, using some CBT it may be a new seller we all been there, but here some acceptance Ebay takes customers sides a lot, god forbid somehow this person really gets a way with your card or money, you can always go to your bank and they work it out instantly.

Best of luck, you have the right to choose what you want. I have bad driving anxiety, before every ride I worry about parking, about bad drivers behind me, tailgaters and while still not perfect I do this CBT type thinking before every ride, even this Monk idea, basically you will get through, do not go into the deep end which is borderline OCD like every solution just think of the acceptance of "I'll handle it the way I'll handle it and it'll be right."

Either do as you feel back in the past I would avoid buying from someone with zero reviews still a bit if it seems fishy but I can tell when someone is just starting up, I bought from a lot of no sales or no reviews clothes resellers and had great luck and knew in the back of my head how to get my money back if scam.

Also agree just don't leave a review till you get it. There can be a million reasons why, maybe it is a red flag, maybe this person has other stuff they are selling and it is the holiday season they want that rating to get more views and sales. It is endless we all been there where just the oddest things happen or randomness where we doom think but sometimes people are strange as the Doors have shared...

Best of luck.

As a 20+ years seller and buyer on Ebay, it seems everyone is concerned about something that hasn't happened yet. No, don't leave feedback before you receive the item. Until you receive it and see what you have got, all of these questions are moot. Once you get it (or don't), you can take whatever actions are needed. Hopefully it all works out fine.

Those would be red flags for me for sure. Been doing business on eBay since 1999. My first purchases were a concert t-shirt and maybe something else.... something small and relatively inexpensive so I could begin establishing a rep with feedback. I can't remember the first thing I sold, but I made sure I went above and beyond with pictures, descriptions, and my expectations about payment, etc. Building trust happens on both sides. After a couple of decades, I started getting burned by deadbeat bidders and people who tried to scam me. I stopped doing auctions and went to buy it now only. I also got scammed by someone after a sale once, claiming a pedal I sold them didn't work and that they wanted a partial refund so they could get it fixed. The pedal worked fine when it left my possession, so it was a 'my word against theirs' scenario. I learned to always take videos of the test pre-shipping and have everything documented. I also had instances where someone BID on an item and won it, but never paid. I've had people cancel after doing a buy it now too.

Long story short.... I hope it works out. Buying anything of high dollar value from a first-time seller will always be risky. YMMV. Trust your gut. If it's too good to be true, or things don't feel right.... don't bid/buy.

I too started with eBay in 1999, with my first purchase. It was a Mesa Boogie DC-2 combo amp. I don't recall for sure what my first sell was, probably a camera of some sort.

And what if it turns out the feedback was not warranted? What then?
Again "So What".

Folk look at feedback to gauge shipping time for items from China, they don't bother for private sellers.

Empty Box Scam ?

Along with parcel dimensions, do you recall that other thing postal services and couriers ask ?

6 letter word, begins with 'W' and ends with 't'

I'm done with this nonsense.

1- That's why i repeatedly mentioned the box could be filled with trash.

They put something cheap or literal garbage in the box that weighs roughly the same as the real item. Whether the box is empty or has some other garbage you didn't order in it, it's still called the Empty Box Scam because it started with shipping empty boxes, and also...

2- Even though the courier ask for the weight, that's the courier, not eBay who's holding your money and giving it to the buyer. The courier/postal service and the website you're buying on are two different business that are in no way responsible to one another. The scam isn't at the courier's store. The scam is tricking the eBay customer protections so they can collect your money and make it look like you received something you didn't:

EBay holds the funds, a box filled with trash gets marked as delivered by the courier, eBay releases your funds, and now it's on you to prove the box with the proper weight on it was sent full of trash instead of what you bought before you can get your money back. And by then, the scammer has already closed their account.

But since you're with this nonsense, have fun pretending scams don't exist mate. 😘

I did message and told them I'm not leaving anything til I test it.. but plot twist.. got the deck no adapter.. I got to get the adapter on amazon to test it.. I asked how they tested the unit.. the had a shop look it over before shipping it.. I'm annoyed.. this is a noob seller.. I'm going to hold my tongue.. but this better be good..
