EBMM price - ouch!

I'm probably late to the game, but I'm looking for a four string "fun" bass. Not a P, I want sexy, slappy, tappy, happy. Looked at a Sterling 4 HH and noticed the price is up $500 from just a short time ago. More digging and found that they all went up $400-500. I thought that Bongo at GC was $2199 the last time I looked and is now $2699. A 25-30% increase at least taps the brakes. They know what they're doing, but that significant of a price increase seems to put all but the gotta have it purchases on hold. The killer is that Musicians Friend had the bass at the previous price, but now the same bass is $500 higher. Come on, it's like I'm buying a mattress or a used car now.

I got my first EBMM for less than I got my ray34 for. If they weren't, imo, gouging their prices I'd have another EBMM on my rack. Seems like they've got some overhead issues to work out or they're feeling too boutique at the moment. At the current price, I need to see better standard features and better finishes.

Maybe they’re making enough off the Sterling by MM and Sub line that bigger margins in the standard line are an affordable luxury which also gives them space to begin raising the prices on the Sterling by MM line. I don’t really buy the “California is expensive” thing. Move if that’s the issue. The CNC machines and robot painting / buffing droids will work in Iowa too.

And you've never considered this?
No need to spend big bucks when this gets the job done…and it's beautiful!

If the price is too high sales will suffer and prices will come down.If they can sell them at the higher price,they will.

This is exactly why I'm getting a used Cutlass from the classifieds. I was trying to decide between a few basses, but when I saw the price increase on Sweetwater I decided to go after the Cutlass. Once used prices catch up to the price increase, I doubt I'll find one in my price range without it having a lot of wear or damage. Now is the time to buy used or I've seen some dealers still selling old stock at the 2017 price.

If you look at a Musicman thread, you'll often see people stating that they are boutique quality at factory prices. It seems they felt the same way about their quality and think their sales won't suffer if they increase the price.

Sorry, somehow I missed that, but I saw one on youtube modded.
Regardless, it's very versatile with just one pickup, especially if you don't see yourself spending the money for a new MusicMan.

The regular, single pickup Stingrays are $1,799 at Sam Ash and Musiciansfriend, which I guess it what the traffic will bear, but the HH neck-through 'Rays are $2499.

That does seem high to me.

I have a Stingray, and love it, but I don't understand why Leo's last child, G&L doesn't sell for as much.

GC is still showing the 6 string Bongo still at $2099. 5 string is $2599 for painted neck and $2699 for the roasted maple neck. No 4 stringers shown at all.

Their necks are among the best in the biz, their electronics blow away most other mass producer's, and people need raises to not start sending out resumeés to machine shops.

I think the neck through adds more to the cost than the HH does. I think the H and HH are only like 200 bucks apart or less

Yeah, but not 25-30% per year expensive. But, EBMM isn’t a bass company any longer. They’re a guitar company that also make basses. Lose some bass sales, eh.

I don't think they sell well on US models. I don't think I've ever seen one live actually. For most people a Stingray or Sterling has one pickup.

I feel the same way about the Caprice. It's a really nice bass but way overpriced IMO.
