What's the main difference between the Stingray and the Sterling? Mostly body shape, or is there any difference in the electronics/craftsmenship/etc... ?

EBMM Sterling VS Stingray

I believe the pre-amp and pickups are different as well. I bought a Nordstrand pup to make it sound more like the Stingray. The Stingray had the sound I wanted, but the Sterling is lighter and has a smaller (jazz-like) neck. The quality of workmanship is the same, IMHO.
Here we go:
- The "Sterling by Music Man" basses just began production this year and are made outside the U.S.
- The "MusicMan Sterling" bass is made in California and has been in production for many years. In that respect it is similar to the StingRay, albeit a bit more "streamlined" in appearance with the smaller body and thinner neck. Someone has explained it as, StingRay is to Sterling as P-Bass is to J-Bass and I guess that's about the best analogy I've seen.
To me, the stingray was the EBMM's "P-bass" and the Sterlin was their "J-Bass" - nicer neck more versatile.

Same here...I have both and the Sterling is my choice..and sorry, the Sterling definitely has the "bawls" in the family
Fact: Stingray pwns the Sterling
Interesting. Last weekend I A/B'ed a late 90s Sterling (single H) against a brand new Stingray HH, and my impression was that that old Sterling owned the new StingRay.
Not sure, though, if the difference can be attributed to difference in model, age, pickup configuration or all of the above.
