EBMM Stingray MIJ reviews?

Hello everyone,

This is my first thread for almost 3 years become member.

last 3 month i just bought ebmm sr4 mij, because now i lives in japan so it will be wasted for not buying bass that made in this country. But i hardly find in this forum that discuss review about this bass, if anyone could share your opinion about this bass and how they compare with US made? Because i dont have US version (im not some rich guys) please?i have sbmm ray 34 and if i compare, ebmm mij has lower output and a little bit more noise when the treble crank up is it same experience with someone in here?

I’m guessing you bought one of the older Stingray EX (Export)?
I’m not aware if those have been made lately or if they are only from mid-late 90’s or so…

Anyway, here is a review of an EX model, looks and sounds exactly like my old ‘94 Stingray.

yes i bought similar like low end lobster has with 3 tones color with muted bridge made around 98 or so…but in here (japan) there are some ebmm ex that has similar model with us made (w/o mted bridge) made around early 2000.
Ah so its similar with your 94 stingray…do you have like “grounding” noise issue? I need to keep my hand on the string to keep the noise level decrease.

No, I never had any noise issues with my ‘94. You may have to go through the electronics and make sure all your ground connections are solid.
As I re-watched the video, @LowEndLobster did mention that it was lower output and kind of noisy at the end of the video. Might be the same issue with all of the EX models…?

@eastcoasteddie ok thanks a lot dude. I also re-watch his @LowEndLobster video and point out some of his words saying about lower output and hum, just curious eventhough all the hardware and electronic is totally same but why its a little bit difference with US made. I will check the route personally if i have time:thumbsup:.
But tonal wise as you said maybe its similar if not identical.
Same case with my PBass 62 MIJ that has lower output. Maybe its related with japan made i dont know:)
As of now im very glad to have this bass

I did a full shielding job and grounded the poles on my EX and it's now absolutely 100% quiet. I swapped on a Status Graphite fretless neck onto my EX and it's so much fun. She's a keeper

@LowEndLobster wow…status graphite fretless neck its awesome dude. Frankly speaking i never mess with the electronic so i will see some youtube video on how to do what you already did…thanks for the advice:thumbsup:

I have one, a late 90s Stingray EX. It sounds and plays like a 90s Stingray (because it has the 90s preamp and pickup). Those are basically the same as the US counterparts. I love mine, it's lightweight (8.7 lbs) and it sounds absolutely killer with tons of that 90s Stingray character.

@mouthmw glad to hear that:hyper:. I also think its has more low end.
you said that same as 90s stingray character, is there any differences between stingray 90s and 2000something for the pick ups and pre amp? I though it was the same until they make pickups with neodinium for us made. So stingray ex 90s = 90s stingray us made but different with 2000ish stingray us made?

The preamp is using larger pots, instead of the smaller noble pots that they've changed to later on (early 2000s) and the pickup has sharper pole pieces (they've rounded them around 2003 I think). How much it affects the tone, I couldn't tell you. Probably not much if at all. But still, it's does have the 90s character :D

Hey all.

I also have a Stingray EX.... but mine is the more rare EX TB. This means it has a different bridge where the strings go through the body. I actually don't know that much about them. I know they are worth holding onto as the values are going up!

I'll try to post pics when I get a chance.

Really cool basses. Made with US parts and Japanese workmanship. Can't go wrong with that combo!

Is the bridge also has muting pad?
