EBMM StingRay Special Club

This thread needs some more action today. So i have a question for those of us with HH models. Which of the switching options are you finding yourself using the most and for what type of sound?

Im using position for 1 Classic Stingray tone ( bridge only)
position 2 for jazz bass like tone ( 2 outer coils)
and postion 4 for Pbass tones ( 2 inner coils)

1-2-4 for me but that could change

I’m all over the place. Usually it’s 1. I actually like 5 for envelope filter because I like the way it hits the filter. I prefer 3 for slap sounds and finger style with mids and treble boosted. 4 with the treble and mids backed off for bluesy stuff and 2 sounds good with a pick.

Honestly the only one that sounds good to me is position 1. 5 is okay. All the other are too filtery IMHO. I’m tempted to move the neck pickup to Warwick $$ position.

Btw...
I use position 1 with the mids just a touch reduced. And positions 4 and 5 like above. NEVER position 3. I expected that to sound soooo good and was sooooo wrong. I don't get it. Both humbuckers on my Warwick $$ sounds great. On the HH it's complete meh!

This is why I went with a 5H Special — with my other StingRays, I hardy ever used any position but 1.

I'm late to the new Stingray Special party, but GAS is hitting me hard the more I learn. Watching videos and reading threads for 48 hrs. Now the wait begins for the right one. Also H vs HH. If I went HH, I would need white pickup covers with a white pickguard (black on black is fine too). Hope I can get from EB.

These days I’m finding use for all of them, though I’d say 1, 3 & 5 are my most used. 1 is an obvious choice, 3 because I love the Sabre type sound and 5 because I can make it similar to a P Bass. Each benefit from their own EQ setting, but I’m finding that easy to dial in now that I know the bass well. With foam under the strings positions 3 & 5 are awesome.

I do use 2 & 4 though - I had avoided 2 but I’m finding it works really well with a Bass Driver, which is a pedal I rarely use. It’s cool to like all 5 positions.

Some days I’m getting into @Stranger Danger territory... whereby this one bass really would be the one to rule them all. Other days it’s cool to have my old P and Smoothie Ray. Point is, never in 26 years have I had a bass that I thought could rule them all, and be genuinely happy just owning one bass.

I get tempted to go buy another bass but then I play this one and think nah, I’m good.
