EBMM StingRay Special Club

I owned a 2018 4H briefly back in December. It was awesome in every way, except that the particular one I had was a bit of a boat anchor at >9.5 pounds. I had bought it used from GC at a ridiculously low price, but back it went. Now I'm holding out for a used lightweight 4H or 4HH that is at least a pound lighter than the one I had. It will come along and I can be patient.

My 5HH special is out for delivery.:hyper:
Hope I get a good one.

In the meanwhile, heres the NOS SR I scored over the weekend, sorry if I am a bit off topic!

The old adage that youre just gonna have to try them out yourself definitely applies, but...... Ive had a ton of Stingrays, and a handful of Classics. Ive heard the whole argument of 2band vs. 3band many times and honestly the difference is slight compared to the difference between other basses. They all sound "like a Stingray". If Stingrays were coffee one has a dash more sweetener and one has a dash more cream but you would enjoy both. The Special can do every tone I love from either and its just slightly more pleasing. Its brewed from a better bean. It still sounds "like a Stingray" though. Its just that maybe that sweetener is real cane sugar instead of splenda and they used real cream instead of 2%. Ive got the HH and Im impressed with its versatility and I only moderately adjust my onboard EQ. With greater adjustments it still sounds "right". I think it can be used for pretty much everything out there. It does a great "vintage" tone if you ask me, but I guess that truly depends on what your idea of "vintage" is.

That’s a cool color!

I hope you like your 5HH as much as I like mine. Mine was heavier than I preferred but after playing it and taking it to rehearsal it is definitely a keeper. I did have to tweak truss rod etc.

Looking forward to your update.

Ive been reading through the recent posts in this thread and particularly those concerning relative string volumes and what sounds the HH basses make. This video (which is a few months old now - I don't think it's been posted before) puts these basses - well the 4 string versions - through their paces and especially the HH so you can judge for yourself - also most of the colours are on display - from around 12.55 is an extended demo of the HH including the various switch and EQ selections - some cool playing as well...... Andertons supplied both my Stingray Specials and as some of you know, one of which is a 4HH Aqua sparkle......

Note from my experience the 5 string version sounds very similar if not the same as the 4 string, just with the extended range.

Only 30 Stingray Specials in the whole of the UK?

Hopefully that has increased significantly since that video was made, but certainly puts things in perspective.

Damn that’s a beaut, is that a laquered neck? It’s got much more colour to it than the normal non-roasted maple ones generally have.

It has a tinted neck from what I hear, a GC special run. I love the feel in my hand.

Just arrived I am about to unpack it in a min.

So my 5HH has arrived!
I am not a good weight guesser but it doesnt feel heavy to me at all.
The setup was excellent with very low action, no fret buzzes, no dead spots, no fret sprouts.
Cant wait to take her home and plug her in!:bassist:

Here are 2 quickies I took.drool

That video was issued when the Stingray Special was launched internationally (beginning of September 2018) - a lot have arrived since then (including my 5HH in November - excuse for another gratuitous picture!! It's now sporting a black pg).
