I use my pedals at home within a headphone practice set up on a Pedaltrain board. The iPad gives me drum loops and tunes to play to. I also use a Zoom B1 for just sitting on the couch and noodling along.

I'll play! A little mood lighting for LED fun.
This is my "Ready for anything" board - truth is I tend to only use the Microtubes, the Compressor, the Octamizer (sparingly), and the tuner at gigs, with the black loop to switch as needed.
The rest are for making fun loops over which I can practice without numbing my mind.

I have been curious about trying that Mr Black. My filter needs are pretty well met by my Manta but that thing looks interesting. Will it do a classic MuTron sound? That's really the only thing that my Manta won't do well.
Wow, nice boards! I am finding out that I am playing with less use of my pedal board because of how hot the Music Man's pickups are.

I have not. Might the nut slot be an issue?
Ran into this trying tenor bass strings on my 4 string. The sound was cool but it became obvious that I'd need a new nut for the narrower strings.
I have done this on other basses before, but that is what I am worried about. I have two other 5 strings strung normal, so this would make this bass a little more different to play.
I went ahead an ordered a pack of new strings for it, so I plan on giving it a try when it comes in the mail on Thursday. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

I was really on the fence on getting it or a Maple board, but since I have two other basses with Maple boards I went with something different.

It’s a club. This is part of the club. It’s interesting to me what effects people use with these basses. I had to make some serious overhauls after I got the Special. I just recently got the same bass (5HH ivory with rosewood board). I’m VERY happy with it.
I also have a 4HH copper with maple board. (Umm, spellcheck wanted to turn maple into “Malone”???)
My 5HH has a fundamentally different tone than my 4HH but I don’t know how much of that, if any, is due to rosewood vs maple. I think it’s more neck mass/stiffness and just variations in individual instruments. Everyone’s experience is different of course.
The 5 has a mellower, more piano-like voice, at least in my early playing time with it for a few weeks. At the moment I am mostly playing in a jazz combo with drums, piano, sax, guitar and singer. But I feel like it could work in most settings.
I just ordered a new pickguard from Mike Quick and will post proper photos when that’s installed.

My 4H with the Ebony board has so much growl to it!
I am hoping for a much more piano like tone with this next one, hence the idea of making it like a piccolo bass strung E-C.

I see your profile pic and I actual went out to originally buy a new Caprice... but ended up buying another Stingray.
Not sure if I might still try to pickup a Caprice if I find one used and can sneak it into the house without the wife seeing it!

I still have the stock Slinkies on mine but ordered some Cobalt flats to try.
When does yours arrive?
It doesn't come until Thursday, but my new Ernie ball strap, strap locks, strings, and string swing come tomorrow.
I'll have the string swing mounted and ready for it though!
I am running out of room in my office to put basses and gear!
Life is good now that I am old and can't play half as good as I could when I was young with no gear!

So true! I have such better gear than I did when I was young and playing out in bands all the time!
Btw a Caprice (or Cutlass) makes an excellent counterpoint to our lovely Specials. The passive EBMMs are really well done.
Just file that away for when you can make room for one more in the crowded office!
I can honestly say that my Special is the best 5 string active I’ve ever had.
My Caprice is the best 4 string passive I’ve ever owned.
2 great basses that bring something different to the table . I am blessed to own both. They are different enough to warrant owning both . I’ve yet to find necks that feel so good in the hand.
