I've picked my 4HH aqua sparkle up - so far it's done a small festival gig, a blues jam and a ska band rehearsal (not bad seeing as I only got it at the end of last week). It's seriously good and I'm loving the revoiced pre amp - a couple of pics

That is a fun finish! And I agree-- that new preamp really brings new life to the Stingray. My bet is Music Man will have much success with this new model
I'm inching towards a 4HH as a compliment to my 5H. Kinda dig position 2, at least in the music store. Oh, and when playing one today "Tom Sawyer" starts playing over the PA. Just a few measures, had to.
2 was a little too scooped for me but thats what they put the eq knobs on there for! Go for it!
Well, it was in the store, so scooped always sounds cool there.
Bought many jazz basses because of that phenomenon.
Seriously though, if you want a sparkly 70's active jazz bass tone (think Sadowsky/Marcus Miller). That #2 position on the 4HH will definitely do that.
I never really cared for the HH setup, but with the newly voiced preamp -- whoa!!
Rich, it just ticks all the boxes. Its got all the sounds. I am in #1 stingray mode most of the time but I don't have to be and that's the point.
I agree, and this is coming from a guy who gave the Classic Sabre a good college try specifically because of the special 4th position with the extra pole pieces. While part of me wishes I was kind of "forced" to find more sounds in the 1st position with the EQ the proper SR way, the other sounds are just too good. And you know you need another color haha
I had a Classic Sabre too. I really liked it but it was too damn heavy. Also had a Big Al SSS and it was much lighter but the tone wasn’t for me and there were those buttons. I did like the shape. I’m much happier with the SRS 4HH.
I’m liking #2 and #4. And just overall love playing this machine.
I see a few people saying they are abandoning their P basses on here. I’m a big fan of the P “on steroids” sound—grindy and middy. I recently played a StringRay Special 5 (single pickup) and was blown away with the playability. But I’m not sure what to do with the sound. It’s very different from what I usually do. I play rock, avant-garde and the occasional jazz.
Those of you who played Ps—could you post a clip of the sounds you’re getting that make you want to abandon your P? Or explain why you say that.? I like the SRS5 so much I am seriously considering buying one and routing it for a P pickup. Thanks.

It would be a lot easier and a lot less traumatic to get the HH. The #4 position (the 2 inner coils) really gets damned close to a p bass on steroids sound.
Don’t judge me I’ve only been playing 10 months lol but here is the tone I’m getting that makes me want to ditch my P basses. It’s 4th position with the bass rolled up just a tiny tiny bit.
