EBMM StingRay Special Club

I have a natural Special 5H incoming, and my gears are already turning.... considering swapping the hardware on it and the Charcoal Sparkle. Natural with black hardware, a la Tim Commerford, and CS with chrome, which I think would only highlight/ accentuate the sparkle. Thoughts?

I wish all of them came with black hardware. I think the natural will look good, but the charcoal sparkle will suffer.

I thought so too, but I put some chrome hardware I have laying around against the sparkle, and it made it pop. I dunno. The natural will be here Friday. It's such an easily reversible mod, I can't help but try it.

I am considering a Stingray Special, but I am unsure whether to go H or HH. The videos I have seen seem to suggest that the bridge pickup on the HH sounds different than on the H. Am I imagining this?
It's exactly the same. There is no difference tonally. The only really drawbacks to the HH is decreased slap room and non traditional appearance. Neither of which outweighed the advantage of having different tones on tap with the flick of a switch.

Yes, to me, they sound the same on the four-strings. The only differences I could see would be on the five-strings where the HH is wired entirely parallel and the H has parallel, series w/filter, and series switch settings (no switch on the 4H).

So, I got excited to do the hardware swap, and failed to take 'before' pics, but you can find them online. Anyway, the 'after' pics:

Not quite the dramatic difference I pictured, but still cool. Might switch it back, tbh.

Did you decide against switching the pickguard screws and strap buttons or were you just to excited once you got the other stuff switched out?
