What strings is everyone using?

I have migrated around a bit, the EB Cobalt Flats were on there for a good while and I liked them, had some Roto Funkmasters 030's on there awhile (awesome fun with those), Some D'Addario XLs for a bit, some others too. But on a whim I put the original EB slinkies back on and I think they might be the best, to me.

Wondering what you all have done.

I’ve used Elixir nickel-plated steels for years now...love ‘em. I kill other strings way too fast. They’re certainly not for everyone, but I love their feel and consistent tone. Mine are lasting me in the 4-6 month range.

A lot of folks like their stainless strings, but for me, while they’re a bit brighter when brand new, they have a more pronounced change in tone than the nickel-plated steels and don’t last me as long due to that.

I’ve experimented plenty with strings in the past with other basses, but Elixirs are all I’ve ever ran on my EBMM basses.

My 5H is tuned E-C with La Bella DTF's. Possibly unusual, but suits me perfectly.

I tried several strings with my 5H Special. GHS Nickel Balanced strings have been the winner for me. Everything about them perfectly compliments the idiosyncrasies of a Stingray.

I have not tried other strings. I'm on my third set of Ernie Ball #2834 Super Slinky Nickel Wound .045 -.100 which is the stock version the bass came with. I'm interested in trying others eventually. Right now, I'm just wanting to get familiar with this particular SRS stock nuances.

These Slinkys just WORK on my 5H. And I'm not a roundwound guy....but they're still on the bass. Maybe tonight I'll get motivated and put some Cobalt Flats on. Those are really my go-to strings now but I really can't argue with how the stock set works!

I love 'em. I tried the Cobalt Flats and EB Group Flats but something wasn't quite right for me with the tone, and I'm a flats guy. The Slinky rounds seem to let the true SRS voice come out. I like how they "die" out pretty quickly, but somehow still maintain their tone nicely with the pickup and preamp. Lots of thick fundamental hittin' my nervous system just about right, when plucked from just the right spot.

Both of mine still have the strings they came with (Sept 18 and Nov 18, 4HH and 5HH respectively). They still sound nice and bright but I can get thump when I want to with muting technique.

After years of experimentation I've concluded the EB hybrid Slinkies (100 to 45 for 4 string) work best (for me) on Stingrays.

I have an EB set on my ceramic natural/maple SR5 with a 125 B string - they sound great as well.

However, I like an SR4 Classic 2 band with flat wounds (TIs in my case) gig every so often - I got the opportunity, a dep at an outdoor performance with a blues/soul band - a bass playing friend who happened to be there and watched the set didn't believe the bass was running flat wounds!! I don't know if that's good or bad - however it was a great sound from my perspective!!

I was using the SS Lo Riders too and really liked them then I got this Phish tribute gig and switched to flats. The DRs were way too bright for Phish.

Interesting - that is a light SR5S. However Heinz the Wonderbass is an extremely light SR5?

Heinz is not heavy for his era. I"d say he's a middleweight.
Really, the 20th SR5 doesn't seem like a boat anchor, either, at 10 pounds. I've had heavier SR5s.
(And will be for sale soon.)
But yeah, that new one is LIGHT. Couldn't be happier.

A little too dull for my taste, but I had a pack laying around. I'll probably go with something a little brighter next time.
