I didn't personally do it, but the TBer I bought it from convinced EB to do a hardware swap. They wouldn't let him buy black hardware outright.

I have one... you're going to love it! The finish is beautiful. I have it displayed (on a somewhat fancy wooden guitar stand) in my dining room and it looks like a piece of really nice furniture.

Yeah, I’m surprised it was done - unless it was for one of their artists. It’d be nice if they offered the option of hardware color choices on ordered instruments.

So with much contemplation I sold off some gear and bought myself a Special. After everything I've been hearing, temptation finally got the best of me. All the rumors are true. It's lighter, more comfortable, balanced. The new voicing is very impressive. It sounds like a Stingray and more. The highs are smoother and the lows are huge. The fit and finish is superb. The roasted maple neck is stunning. Silky smooth and fast. I swear it's a wee thinner than my other Rays. She's worth every penny. I'm beyond pleased.

I’m back in love with mine, like I was when I first got it. Mines heavy for a 4, 9.47, but it balances great and bothers me not. There’s just a little hard mid in even the mildest tone that I’d rather not have, but I can live with it. The neck though, built.for.MY.hand.

So my bass arrived Friday. Picked it up at 4pm and started a gig at 6pm. LOL. It didn’t disappoint. I also used it at church this morning. I’ve never had an ebony fretboard before. I absolutely love it. Here’s a quick snippet of the new Stingray 5 Special HH(charcoal sparkle). Nothing fancy. Straight from the phone. This church is fun!
