Curious as to where you guys set your onboard 3b eq at? I like the bass dimed, mids centered, and treble 3/4 up
This is with new dunlop super brights

Man that's a lot of added gain with the lows cranked be careful!

Depends on the setting for me. Position 1 (back P/U only) Lows slightly boosted, mids flat and highs to taste. Position 2 and 4 lows up a tad, mids boosted maybe 30-40% and highs flat. I rarely use position 5 (front P/U) or 3.

I play in a blues/blues rock trio. I roll off my treble completely and center everything else unless it's a slap thing then I put in the treble center position with bass and mid centered as well using Ernie Ball strings the ones it came stock with. Best bass I've ever owned!View attachment 3634057

I loved everything about my Jet Black, save for the B/W/B pickguard. I had Chandler make me a single-ply
matte black which I thought better fits with the "stealth" look....thought I'd share:

Thanks for the suggestion, new matte black pick guard added to remove the scratches off of the shiny original one.
They were quick in making it and sending it out too!

I got a new pair of strings under the Christmas tree for it too!

I usually use light gauge Ernie balls(which have surprisingly lasted me almost a year!), but these new ones are going to be a light gauge LeBella that I’ve yet to try.

The color is gorgeous with that roasted maple!

I ended up putting on some really light gauge Ernie Ball round wound Cobalts this morning on my four string Special. They sound really great and punchy, but I will say that I am not a fan of the tension on Ernie ball strings(maybe it’s the stainless steel). I’ve been really digging my stretcher feeling Fender, DR, and Dunlop strings instead.
Still though, these would really stand out in a mix.

I agree, I’ve tried two different sets of Ernie Ball strings and they definitely suit their basses well.
They also seem to last a LONG time! I think I had the last set on for a year, and this was one of my main basses I’ve been playing.

Late to the party trying these out. Just strung up with a set and looking forward to NYE gig. At home they are everything I’m looking for. Fingers crossed.

Picked up a Charcoal Sparkle 5 string Stingray Special on Black Friday from GC. Was holding out my opinion until I had a chance to play it at rehearsal a few times. It’s extremely light for a stingray, no official weight but it has to be just under 9 lbs. It balances well and is overall super comfortable. The fret work leaves a bit to be desired, the fret ends are a bit sharp and overhang the fingerboard enough to be annoying. Probably some fingerboard shrinkage - can be resolved super easy. Out of the box, the action is a bit high and I’ll switch out the strings soon and drop the action.

Sound wise, it’s awesome. Sits great in the mix, a solid foundation and I love the options of the HH. I’m using position 4 quite a bit as I really like P tones these days. I’ve owned a number of other Musicman basses including a classic, a 1990 SR5, Bongo, and a mid 2000s HH with ceramic pickups. I really didn’t like that old HH at all - not a bit. But this Special is really something!

I'm likely going to be trading out one of my basses for a Special 4HH within the next month or so, probably in Cruz Teal, which is a big departure from my more muted colors that I usually use. Something about the teal and black hardware that just makes me happy every time I look at it. Plus it resembles a 1950's Corvette, and that's never a bad thing. I've had versions of the Stingray in the past and my main basses are a single humbucker in the MM position or twin soapbars, so I'm very familiar with the tone. The new electronics I think are a major upgrade in the direction I've been favoring which is why I've been gravitating back towards using a Ray.

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to you all and thank you for the wealth of knowledge this thread has provided so far.

Don't be afraid to step away from your comfort zone of "muted colors;" last year I passed on a Burnt Apple Special because it was "too flashy" from what I was comfortable with-- and regretted it. So earlier this month when I found an Aqua Sparkle and said the heck with comfortable and went with it. Best bass decision I've ever made

What’s interesting is that muted color is totally subjective. Burnt Apple would be muted to me because I’ve owned a bass with a two tone wine burst for probably 15 years and it’s not far off in color. Darker two tone bursts like that are very classic looking.
