Yes, both would be the way to go! I like having both the 4 and 5 of the same bass because the music I play doesn't always call for a 5. I have a baby on the way, so whatever I do can't eat into my wallet. One bass sells and another comes in without spending anything extra. So if I want two, you get the picture. That's just being smart with my money right now or else I'd find another way.

The contrast of the black hardware is what really sold me. I almost went with the charcoal sparkle but thought the blue would look better under the stage lights. Wasn’t wrong !

You are a wise man! Family always comes first, ALWAYS!

Over the past several years, probably close to 10 at this point but I'm not counting, it's been one in and one out. I was going back and forth between 5s and 4s. I'd need a 5 then I'd sell my 4 and vice versa. I ended up getting rid of some basses I want back but oh well. I have a 4H right now but I need a 5 for my music work I'll be starting next month, so I'm actively hunting. I'm probably going to buy a 5H in Aqua Sparkle to match my 4H but damn those HH's might be calling my name. Plus I'm looking at a couple of other options but that EBMM tone is really my tone.

My bassist buddy told me to get the 5. My wife said the 4. I like the body shape of the 5, but the overall feel of the 4. Like I said above, I'm spoiled by the Modulus basses. The B string is hard to beat, but the Ray's are no slouches. They're not quite as piano-like, but the note definition is still clean and tight. The neck felt a little on the chunkier side on the 5, but it wasn't something I'd complain about if I had nothing to compare it to.

I've amassed probably (subjective) a few too many basses over the past couple years, but I hit a point where I was able to afford the ones I really wanted after paying off a car and getting a raise all within the same time span. I only had two cheap basses that I used for about a decade and then the collection started to grow. After finally getting a chance to play live regularly I've figured out what works and doesn't work and I'm slowly making some changes. The one constant is that I favor humbuckers and I know what tones they are capable of. If you're on the fence about getting an HH, do it! Unless you slap a ton and absolutely need that space, I see it as a no-brainer. I could still slap on it fine once I figured it out. You get 5 times the amount (and then some with the EQ) of tones on the HH and still have that classic Ray sound in switch position 1.

Thank you! In February we will know the gender. We want a girl, but we'll be happy with either so long as it's healthy - and everything so far is good!

I'm a "Mr. Single H" type of guy but I'm thinking of the 5H vs 5HH world where you have to give up tones going from the 5H to 5HH (love the series option on the 5H). The 4H vs 4HH is a different world. I'm a terrible slapper (and I like to slap) and I've had a tough time on the HH models. If I'd spend some time with it, I probably would be just fine with a HH.

With that said I'm thinking seriously about a 5HH model.

I realized yesterday that the Regular Slinkys I've got on my Special are nearly 16 months old. I've been rotating them with some Group II flats I've got, depending on the application I need, but I feel like trying something different.

Anyone have experience with Pressurewounds/Compressors or Halfwounds/Groundwounds on the SRS (or at all, being that I haven't tried these varieties on my other basses either)?

I love the deep fundamental I get from flats, and generally am a flats guy, but have really grown to love the growl and overall openness of the rounds. Thought I'd explore the middle ground some more (have done Cobalt flats but something about the Cobalt alloy doesn't pair well with my fingers, it seems).

well, I was gonna suggest going with DR Legends, That's what I've got my SRS5H strung with, but you want to go with rounds so have you tried DR Black Beauties?
