I haven’t played an H with a low B. so I can’t comment on that.

But on the HH- I tune down a half step. So I get down to B flat. I like the low B Flat string. It does it’s job. Even today I was using it a lot at two different gigs. I’ve played Low B strings that were a little better(roscoe, dingwall) But like I said- it does it’s job and I’m happy with it.

Why didn't you try the sewing thread fix? Literally zero mess and the screws don't move anymore. A thread or two per saddle screw is enough.

I think it's a great color, but I'm a little biased. This is mine with a custom pickguard.

The Dropped copper HH is the first one I ever played and I couldn’t get it out of my head for 2 months. I ended up with the H version and I’m super pleased. I debated between the HH and H but I have plenty of other bases to cover other tones. The H is perfection.

Hi Everyone! First time posting on TB! Got myself a nice 5H Natural at the end of 2018, after having been a Jazz Bass player for 20+ years... there was just something about this bass: the neck, body, weight, and string spacing was just so perfect! I tried it once at GC, and like some of you, I just couldn’t get it out of my head!... So anyway, I played and experimented with EQ and Strings... At first I had a real hard time finding a inspirational tone on it, since it is so different from my j basses... So anyway, after trying a bunch of strings I found the LowRider Nickels a good match... I now really starting to dig the tone, BUT, my B string is so boomy on it.... This is with the Bass turned up between 25 to 50% of detent. If I go lower than that, I find the rest of the strings start sounding thin. And this is comparing to my 5 string JB’s, which all have clearer and more balanced B strings... My amp is flat, playing through Mesa subway 1x12... Am I missing something here? Maybe pickup height? Looking for some advise... Cheers...

My five string is also HH. I MUST have a neck pick up. I prefer the different sounds that are capable when switching between pickups. Or being being balanced between bridge and neck.

Don’t get me wrong I think the H’s sound good too.

I just have to have the bridge pickup as well.

I don't have a B string so I can't be much help there but I did try the Lo Rider Nickels on my SR4 and I ended up taking them off and putting on TI Power Bass rounds which have a higher gauge than the original rounds (.043 - .089 vs .047 - 107) both are fantastic strings in fact I've converted all my basses except one to TI rounds and flats at this point. Anyway I liked these much better however that doesn't tell you how their B string will perform. I will say that while I'm not a fan of slinkys the original slinkys on this bass worked well I thought so if you are fine with the strings as they are see if you can get ahold of a different brand B string and swap it out.

Are you always playing it in the same location? (Room nodes)

Did you change the pickup heights?

I had to set my pickup height very low to get the B string to intonate properly.

Hi, yes, I’m mostly playing the same room, although I’ve got a jam this weekend. I’ll see if that makes a difference then. But even my direct recording levels indicate a large spike when playing the B string, so, that should be room independent... As for pickup height, I’ve played with it, but with the rest of the strings sounding awesome, the base just feels unbalanced.

I have yet to “retry” the original slinkys, but this has been a pretty consistent problem since I’ve gotten the bass, even with the original strings... Never played those TI, but I prefer medium to light gage strings...

Also, remember the neo magnets in the Special pickups are much stronger than traditional pups. So as someone said try lowering the pup under the B string. It can pull the string and dull it with that high mass. Best to start with EBMMs recommended pickup heights for the Specials, not what you’re used to using with other basses
