Yeah, I just never thought we'd see it in the full grown Sting Ray - but more than that, it's the aesthetics, and choice of woods that really do it for me.
Not to take anything away from that BFR, but I sure hope you decide to release the standard, active, Sting Ray special in that finish (I'll take one with a maple fretboard, and black pickup cover).

That passive BFR is beyond sexy, if there is such a thing.

...Though I decided Im holding out for another Stingray Special offering that is covered in gloss like the fretless from earlier in the year...I might be weird but I just like the feeling of a gloss neck under my hand. It's my one criticism of my Special 5.
I have one of the fretless BFR SR4's and it is truly just about perfect for me in every way. Now I just need one with teeth....so still holding out for a BFR.

I guess I’m weird because I like the rubbed oil necks. I have a BFR Big Al 4sss with that neck and I wish my BFR Stingray 5 fretless had one, but the finish on that isn’t sticky at all so it’s no big deal. And I am looking at getting the just released kinetic blue SRS5 and it looks like that one is painted, but has a satin finish applied so I guess I’ll see about that one, but I have no doubt that i will like just fine!

Once you get it Id love to hear how the painted neck feels compared to the gloss on the fretless.
I have the BFR Dargie Delight 3 SR Special which has a matte green finish on the whole body & neck and it is honestly just as smooth as my two roasted maple neck SR's with the oil finish.
That's what I figured. The ginger sparkle SR5 looked like a more potentially glossy feel but I wasnt sure so never jumped on one.
...btw nothing really wrong with my Special 5. I think the only thing that would replace it is another special with a glossy neck.
I was just checking out the specs on the blue 5er. The neck finish is described as "high gloss polyester."
Definitely, interested to hear how it feels.
The Joe Dart was already passive but yes, with less control (no control?)
I should add that I also have a glossy neck on my bfr fretless ray and it also feels very smooth and not sticky at all. So I have a glossy neck, oil finished, and matte painted and they are all very similar and none are at all sticky.
