EBMM StingRay Special Club

Been playing this ash bodied beauty for about 6 months - great bass, I find more sounds all the time!

Hope y'all don't mind me sharing some more cool SR Special pics. They're not mine but I saw these posted on the EBMM forum a couple of days ago. Looks like a pair of custom StingRay 5 Specials. One looks to be the pink champagne sparkle BFR but as a 5 string. The other is apparently called Ocean Sparkle finish with the last remaining fretless neck from the 5 string BFR they did last year.

That Ocean sparkle :woot:. That would make me learn fretless. What a beauty!!

Any more details?

Yeah that Ocean sparkle is a very nice finish with the white pickups and gold hardware. That fretboard too, damn.

That info is about all that I know. The player is apparently an EBMM artist so that's how he was able to get those made.

Guys have you tried flatwounds on Stingray special ? Lately I've been trying to nail Bernard Edwards basslines but my sound is so bright with roundwounds .

I had D'Addario Chromes on my non-Special 2 band Stingray for years. It's a great sound. You can get away with having the treble up higher, so you still get good articulation without the zingy high end. This is key, because Bernard definitely had some high end in his sound. It wasn't a treble-all-the-way-off tone to my ears. I used to get a good Bernard tone with the treble maybe 40% of the way up, which would mean rolling down a bit from the center detent of a Special.

As far as I know, it's not 100% known that Bernard used flats. It's only assumed from his tone and an offhand comment he made once that he was still using the same strings that had come stock on the bass (Stingrays shipped with flats at that time). Bernard wasn't a gear nerd lol.

I say we start petitioning now for Ocean Sparkle to be a standard finish next color change!!
Take my money now!! This would look so good next to my Amethyst Sparkle .

How about the new BFR Stingray? I'm not usually big on black basses but this one is pretty:

They are killing me (in a good way) with the gold hardware on these.

If that black 4 string was a single H model I'd be crazy tempted to join the Stingray family... I LOVE the black/gold and it doesn't have the pickguard? DAYUM!
