EBMM StingRay Special Club

I'd guess the blocks, binding, flamed neck, and limited quantity.
Tack on an extra $50 for that pearloid guard, too. ;)
If you zoom in on the neckplate, it says BFR in cursive.

That's a pretty big upcharge for pickguard, binding, and blocks.
Could it be that the new business model is to sell less basses but at a higher price?
$3,500 for a factory made bass seems high but something tells me they will sell all they produce.
Amazing to see delivery dates on Bass Central for MM basses arriving December 2023.

Yeah very pretty bass but price seems crazy.

I do love blocks though!

I've been thinking of doing a build with a status MM 5 graphite neck with blocks for the last couple years. I'll get to it eventually.

With supply chain issues and rising prices I'm feeling very blessed to have snagged the deal on the special I just bought.

Thinking of redoing my amp setup. Who has used Aguilar TH and Aguilar cabs with their Special? Curious of thoughts.

I'm currently using a TH500 but a Darkglass cab (I had a Darkglass amp too but I got a ton of issues with it and returned for the Aguilar). I plan to sell the Darkglass cab and pair it with a DB112 (or SL112).

It sounds great with the TH500. Cranking the highs and high mids bring that Stingray aggressiveness if that's what you're looking for. And the drive knob helps to tight the sound but if you crank it too much the B string will sound muffled (too much bass already on the bass). But that could also be my small bassy room.

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure what cab I would use. Played through a TH before but never an Aguilar cab

What didn't work with the TH for you?

I’ve found the tone of the TH to be too chewy and lacking in “oomph” when turned up loud. I know plenty of folks who’ve gotten fantastic tones out of theirs, but mine never worked well enough in a live setting. I never had that issue with either the DB750 or DB751

I also owned a set of SL cabs. Likewise, I found them a bit too polite and soft spoken for loud, rock music. Again, not an issue with the GS or DB cabs. Depending on what you’re trying to play, they may be great for you.

That's helpful. Wish it was easier to try heads and cabs in person.

I have a TC Electronic BG250 15 combo I was using just for bedroom practice, and a MarkBass Marcus Miller head paired with an old Eden 2x10 I used for playing with others. Ending up getting rid of the MarkBass/Eden setup and just using the TC combo for everything. It sounds pretty darn good and is light and easy. Just wish I had more headroom on occasion.

Considering just looking for a bigger TC setup too. Just always liked Aguilar when hearing others play, and like the TH pedal.

The guys I play with aren't into being super loud which I really appreciate. Mostly playing things in funk/r&b/rock realm

I've played my Special HH through a TC Electronic RH450 and RH750 with two RS210's multiple times and it sounds great. One of my favorites just behind an Orange 4 Stroke with two OBC115's.

I used to have an Aguilar Tonehammer for a short time and I just could not get along with it. As @jmattbassplaya stated "chewy and lacking in oomph". I've never tried it with a Stingray, but I just can't see the amps voicing meshing very well with it. YMMV though.

Yeah TC stuff seems to pop up on CL here often so I might get to try some.

I've been thinking about Mesa potentially too. Always loved the Walkabout series

The Special HH sounds great through my Mesa TT800 as well so I have no doubt it would sound just as good through a Walkabout or WD800. Lots of good choices out there.

Another vote for Mesa. I sold my Aguilar DB751 when I got my D800. That’s not to say the Aguilar was bad - I simply wasn’t gigging out as much as I once was and couldn’t justify keeping such a powerhouse of an amp at home. The D800 sounds great both at home and with a group, and the EQ is set just right. Sounds great with my Ray, Jazz, P, and it sounded good with my Ric when I had one.

Just wanted to share the new membe of the family.
The middle HH
Left is Stingray SLO and right a killer 5H
I would love the new HH was black, but it is also nice and adds a little color :)
I guess my Stingray needs are complete?
