EBMM StingRay Special Club

At least they have an indicator on the top. That's another one of my minor beefs with my Stingrays.

If I'm adjusting tone controls between songs on a gig, I have to do a quick twist back and forth to find the detent before I can set them where I want them.
I use the screw hole as the indicator. I set them to Center on the tone controls and max volume.

Not sure how much you are cutting or boosting but I use the grub screw as my indicator, not sure if this is standard but mine even came with it dead center of detent, so if i see the grub screw a hair forward or 25% of the way forward i know whats up.

If you spin the knobs so the set screw points up at the detent or at full volume it helps with a visual reference. Someone showed me this years and I have all my basses set up like that. A quick peek down and I know if a knob is full on or at the center.

THanks for sharing!

This made me like the Kiwi more, the Ocean sparkle even more and now that i see the grape crush is a purpleburst with a blue border basically i like it less :p.

Intersting to hear about the jackpot having some gold sparkle fleck. Didn't come across in the video but sounds neat.

The blue burst... i cant get my old tribute out of my head that i didn't get along with and sold lol.

Hey all! I have a Stingray Special 5H that I want to add a kill switch to disconnect battery power when the bass is at rest during performances. I’d like to replace the volume pot with a push pull pot. Has anyone made a similar mod, or know what the pot’s resistance value is? Or know a good reason not to do this?
The batteries will last a very long time, months if not a couple of years. It's a lot of work to shut the circuit off for maybe 30 seconds. Unplug it when you're not playing it and you'll be fine. I've had my 5HH for 5 years and have changed the batteries twice and it gets played a lot.

I imagine fitting a push/pull pot may be an issue anyway. If the pot is soldered onto the board, a push/pull pot may sit too high.

Of all the comments I've seen in this thread and others, it looks like I'm the only one who finds the Genius Gold worth mentioning. I LIKE it!

I think that good sparkle would look awesome with ebony board / black pickguard / gold or black hardware.
Also with maple board and black blocks.
So many ways you could dress it up with black or white and gold pickup magnets .
It’s great finish for sure !!!

Nope, I did back on page 563! ;) :D

And I agree with @LadyLoveStingRay5 about an ebony fretboard looking great with that finish. I also think that finish practically demands a matching headstock. Still looks fantastic as is, though, and would defintiely tempt me if they still offer it the next time I buy.

Agreed, im assuming its because they actually want to match the pole peices to the hardware, and gold hardware would have maybe been overkill.. but the polepieces only being gold would have been a nice touch. Personally i like the pearloaid but i could see black being nice too!

There’s a couple of reasons that make this an impractical idea….

First, the pots are soldered to the electronics board, making it really difficult to find the right exact replacement push/pull pot. And it will be pricey, no doubt.

Then it will take a skilled electronics guy to remove the original pot without damaging the board. Not impossible, I’d tackle the job if I saw any real merit to the idea.

There’s also a slight possibility of switching the bass on and off might produce a pop. How much of a pop won’t be known until this swap is actually made and tried.

And there’s the fact that in the awfully big picture, unplugging the bass when not in use isn’t widely seen as a Big Deal by most.

Now, I will acknowledge that your idea isn’t without merit and we as individuals choose our own battles.

You asked for thoughts. Here’s mine…:D

Best of luck whatever idea you pursue.
