I can understand your viewpoint, but it doesn't really bother me. I'd say the Ocean Sparkle is one of the new finishes that's unapologetically flashy!

Anyone find videos or more upclose photos? Im out of the market for another bass as expensive as the specials but i really wanna see a few of these closer, the Grape Crush being one of them.. im curious if there is a slight sparkle or nuances in some of these finishes.

I was thinking the same thing, that the Purple Sunset was specifically to get players like me, who love traditional finishes, an opportunity to "go a little wild" without going too wild. Might be the reason why that one grabbed me the way it did.

That being said, I think I may have broken out of that mindset since buying my Big Al (Candy Red Metallic). Don't get me wrong, I still love 'em! But I don't think they're a requirement for me anymore.

I've gone back to the NAMM page on the EBMM site a few times today and I'm liking the overall offerings this year more as I peruse them.

Don't know how close it would be to a real Stingray, but it should be a great bang-for-the-buck instrument. I like Jazzes as well (not as much as Stingrays, or Musicmans in general) and I have a Sire V5R five string, which is a passive Jazz bass. I like it a lot. It does a vintage Jazz tone very well and the sound fits my classic rock and blues band very nicely.

I bought it to be a relatively inexpensive bass to use when conditions make me hesitant to take my good basses out (such as outdoor gigs when there's a threat of rain), but I found it to be a really nice instrument that sounds great. It doesn't get as much gig time as my Musicmans, but it gets its share. My band loves it, especially our guitar player, who subtly and sometimes not so subtly suggests I use it more.

I figure it will be close might not be to the exact Stingray tone and would be a perfect jam session or sketchy gig spot bass or any place I wouldn't want to take my Stingray Special's to.

I know nothing about their new Z series basses. But my experience with my Sire makes me think it's likely you'll get exactly what you're looking for from it. And probably more.

But I wouldn't rule out a Sterling by Mucsicman, though. If you have a place to check them out, it might be worth doing a comparison.

Got some new knobs & Strings yesterday. The Contact Cores are great so far---brightness/no clank for days.

Yea seems kinda weird to me that they even state "available winter 2024" but they already took down all the existing colors even ahead of NAMM. Maybe they are trying to just cleanup the backlog, or if you put an order in now with your music store ect your expecting a winter delivery.

They are huge, indeed! They are actually lightweight. Aluminum feels/looks like. About the same weight as orig. knobs---maybe even lighter. Remind me of the old Realistic Stereo knobs from the 70's
