Here's the pearl laid on it. Looks good, but it's not "me" - if you know me in person you would agree. I dress in black and earth tones almost always, and have a "hipster" type look. The pearl just doesn't fit my vibe - too refined, too Hello Kitty. On the right person it would be killer though! I see an old soulful dude in a suit at church or something, haha.

Right now I can get a really good deal on the pueblo pink from 2023 - I do love shell pink, and I think this would look amazing with a tort guard. Hmmmm..decisions, decisions. It would wind up about $6-700 cheaper than the hot honey would cost. I already have a surf green precision and sonic blue jazz bass, this would fit in perfectly. However, I like my stingrays best with wood grain!!

It’s a winner either way. It’s always nice when you get that you want and it’s a little different than the norm.

Here she is! Bass is absolutely amazing. The pink is quite mild in person, absolutely love it. Very shell pink/vintage looking, nice dark board (which will get even darker once I oil it). 8lbs, 2 oz. Everything is perfect. NOT SURE about the tort! Actually kind of digging the original pearl better, which is a first for me. The pearl seems to have some pink in it, or is reflecting off the bass, which just looks awesome... but we'll see. Both look awesome.

I had a Early model Ernie Ball Stingray 5HH that weighed over 12 pounds that I gigged for years in a Worship Ministry setting. Loved that bass but the weight just wore on me over the years. Wanting to get a Stingray Special from Sweetwater and was wondering how they compare tonally and build wise to the earlier versions? Really loving the option to get one under 10 pounds now lol.

I agree that going and trying one is the best option. I have had a few Stingrays (Classic 5 2 band, 2011 5 HS, Special 5 HH and the one I held onto my Special 5H). I personally prefer the Special over the others, and find the EQ is such that you can make it sound like the older models pretty easily. Especially once it is in the mix. I find the Special to be really versatile and ergonomic.

Everyone is different though so either try one in store somewhere or buy from somewhere that has a no hassle return policy and see for yourself!

I love my Special 5H so much, just a killer and ridiculous bass that weighs just under 9lbs.

The only StingRays that have had both active and passive options were the PDN Gilded White models and there was a Guitar Center exclusive. These were based on the classic / 2band/ mutes / slab body models . These were very limited runs .

There was also some USA SUB passive models. Again slab bodies but no mutes.

I wish I still had my passive Okoume BFR. I traded it for my 5H Special which I don't regret doing cuz I love that bass but I just miss that okoume passive. Such a cool looking bass and mine was probably my lightest bass.

I'll almost always vote "Tort!", but they both look great. And it's easy enough to swap them out if you want to feel like you got a new bass without having to sell that one first.

I personally prefer the Special over the others, and find the EQ is such that you can make it sound like the older models pretty easily. Especially once it is in the mix. I find the Special to be really versatile and ergonomic.

Don't get me wrong, I've always loved my Stingray Special, but my ceramic 2007 SR5HH has been my favorite all along, admittedly by a very small margin. But I think that might be changing.

I've noticed being even more satisfied than usual with my Special 5HH lately. I'll never not love the ceramic, but the balance has seemed to tip ever so slightly toward my Special, at least at this point in time. Its slightly warmer, less aggressive tone probably fits my bands overall playlist a little better.

This probably isn't the right place to say that my relatively new-to-me Big Al 5SSS might actually have an ever so slight edge over BOTH Stingrays. So I won't bother opening up THAT can of worms.

That being said, they're still effectively my three #1's. I can't say any of them is a clear #1 by itself because they all are very comfortable to play, sound fantastic, and cover a wide tonal range very effectively. But I have noticed lately that I've been reaching for my Special even more frequently than usual.

I for one do not care about you talking about the Big AL same family tree just different fruit. Plus it's one of coolest basses I've seen.

Welp, it already went back. I'll keep my comments simple and brief. It sure was beautiful, but the frets had a significant problem around the 5th and 6th fret on the G string once I set it up to my liking. All the other strings were buzz free except that. Raising the saddles and adding more relief didn't help until the action was WAYYYY too high for my liking. I checked the frets with a rocker and sure enough the 7th fret was way high in that area. Truss rod was also super stiff to where it felt like the tool was going to bust trying to adjust it.
