EBMM StingRay Special Club

I don't know if you're a pearl guy, but as soon as you said white pickguard, I immediately thought white pearl.

But, I *am* a pearl guy. so that's just my humble opinion. But, I do think a plain white pickguard will be even prettier than the black. I suspect that the white will lighten up the overall vibe and make it easier to see the color than with the black pickguard.

I see you can buy pickguards directly from EBMM. They have a white one for $30 and a pearl one for $75. I may do that!

Maybe I can throw a picture of the bass in some AI platform and generate a comparison shot of how the pickguards would look.

I started wondering if I should have gotten the Cherry Punch finish for a bit more and then I saw a picture of Guy Fieri in a flame shirt and it made me stop lusting for that finish.

White pearl is almost always the way to go. :thumbsup: Is there a white pearl pickguard club? :roflmao:

You think so? I actually really like the white and pearl, but i wouldn't swap the hardware if it was free to do so IMO. You have metallics in the blue finish and silver frets i think the silver would look better than gold or black.

In my eyes with everything stock it feels like the dark and light contrasts are imbalanced and the dark colors are much stronger. Due to this the chrome/silver tuners, bridge, etc. cheapen the overall look and I think it would look better if they were also blacked out to match the overall dark aesthetic. Since that's not an option, I think replacing the black pickguard with a white pickguard helps balance the overall color scheme and makes the chrome hardware feel less out of place.

The closest thing I can think of is when people have Subaru's that are black, have tinted windows, etc. but didn't go the full mile and do the black out package where the badge is blacked out, etc.

This probably sounds like insane rambling, but that's how I feel about it.

Great looking Bass white pick guard works: Special 5 is one of best 5'ers available: Great B string, fit and finish, Overall build Quality, Tone and playability

I thought the Stingray was a one-trick pony, that you automatically sound like 80s UK pop music.

The Stingray Special can certainly deliver that sound, but with the right playing technique, it can be shaped in a variety of directions.

Lately, I've been using the middle position of the 3-way switch a lot; it gives me the most versatility. The other two positions then give me the options for that typical punch: series with rich mids or parallel with crisp highs.

Did your tuning pegs come with that plastic wrap over them? Or did the bass have plastic over the body/headstock in the case?

Mine did not. My Sterling Ray34 had plastic wrap on the pegs.

Just trying to make sure Musician’s Friend didn’t ship me a return as I got burned in the past.

This video shows his bass in bubble wrap - mine did not have this:
