EBS gear

Hey all

I'm starting to look at EBS gear as a serious alternative to Ampeg for my first "serious" amp. I'm presently playing on a Yorkville 200W, and while it does the job fine, I definitely want something better.

But for now I'd start with their ValveDrive tube preamp.

Does anyone here have any experience with the EBS stuff, amps, preamps, anything? I'd like to hear about it as I've come to trust the opinions of many people here from reading a lot of threads.

Oh and, as a reference, this pedal preamp is sold 345$ Canadian money here in Montreal.

Can't really offer you too much analysis here, due to my limited experince with their gear, apart from to say that the build quality of their pedals and cabs is superb.

I own an EBS Multicomp pedal (widely regarded to be one of the best sounding non-valve comps around, BTW) and you really could drive a truck over it (very thick casting on the case and high quality-looking circuitry). Very sublime sound too - complete opposite to a Boss Compressr/Limiter.

Also, I was auditioning cabs this weekend and spent a while with the EBS Evolution Proline 212 (2x12"). Again, build quality was very re-assuring. It has the lowest low frequency response of any 2x12" that I found (so far) at 30hz and it sounds very strong and punchy with the right amp.

On the subject of amps, I initially auditioned it through an EBS EB350 and, I have to say, I didn't find that to be a hugely versatile head. However, I really only fiddled with it for a few minutes, so don't take that too seriously. The Glockenklang Soul head that I subsequently plugged the cab into, appeared to have a bassier tone and tone controls which made more of a difference.

So, on the build quality (and looks ) front, I'd rate them very highly. Price and overall sound quality, I'm not so sure about .

Still, a search on this forum under "EBS" is sure to turn up some better informed opinions than mine.

ebs gear is quite expensive. i own a td 650 that i a slap monster. the drive knob is also very cool. i had issues with it twice. it is the exact opposite of an ampeg. i also own a svt 2-pro. it does not have the definition of the ebs but it has so much more low end. the ebs is loud but you can´t feel it onstage. the svt moves much more air. i love them both but they are completly different.

i really like a jazzbass with my ebs. but as much i love my p or sr5 with my ampeg.

If you search 'KJung' and 'EBS' I have too many posts discussing and reviewing the HD350 and TD650.

+1 to the above post... probably as far from the Ampeg tone as you could get.

I used to work for their US distributor, so I had some time to sample their gear, and I would have to say that it's all top-quality stuff, but significantly more expensive than other amps. Also, you need to like the tone - it could be the best chocolate ice cream in the world, but if you like vanilla, you're never going to be happy.

EBS is built like a tank, love that.. but to me, the tone is nothing special. Surely, it has great slaptone and the overall sound is VERY, VERY clean.. But EBS ain't got no MOJO
