I was looking at that, and the other microbass models, but went another direction, for now. I would say if you are doubling on BG (or any second instrument), have an effects loop, and run to FOH a lot - it's by far your best option and massively worth the investment. I like that you can set the HPF for each channel on that model, and it has some kind of LPF/cab sim, kind of the main hook with that version, and probably makes it worth the extra bill in the long run.

I had one and returned it immediately. I'm trying out the Headway EDB-2 and like it way better than the EBS. I don't think Stanley even uses it.

Thanks for your input. I currently have a Providence Dual Bass Station that has been great for most of my doubling needs. I just thought the EBS might be an upgrade… don't really "need" it….

I looked at the Stanley Clarke Preamp on line and even considered a trial. Alas I already owned the Grace and Headway.

I got this preamp a year and a half ago to use with my Realist Lifeline pickup (that I love), in hopes of getting a less 'amp-y' upright sound out of my amp. The Lifeline had gotten me my favorite fundamental tone from swapping pickups, but still sounds like a pickup.

Experimenting with the pedal, it was nice, but did not quite make my DI sound as 'beautiful' as I was hoping for from the marketing. Still sounded like a pickup, and since that's what I was trying to change, it would not have been worth the price - until I started experimenting with the second input.

Long story short, my setup is now running two pickups at once through the Stanley pedal, essentially hi-passing a piezo wing pickup only for top-end clarity and mixing it in with the body from Lifeline - and it has changed everything. My amplified sound can get so loud and clear, and I am even blending it in with a mic when I record. The preamp was worth it for me.

Thanks, this is great info! I also have a Lifeline and am looking at this preamp for similar reasons…, wondering if it could help get a more natural sound.
Can I ask exactly what the second pickup is the "piezo wing pickup" as you called it, that you are using?

Yes, it's from Kremona and it is affordable! KNA DB-1. It worked better than the Underwood on my bass, but when I found the Lifeline it just went into a storage box. Now that I'm on this two-pickup game (and... have a preamp), it's indispensable.

I've had one for about a year now and I really like it. Sound guys like it too. It's made doubling with a BG very easy, and it accommodates an effects loop with no fuss.

Is somebody know the amonth of blend made by the parallel mode of the effect loop?
50-50 or something else?

You either have a blend in the amp or it is 100% and you need to blend in the effect unit.

I finally got the EBS Stanley Clarke preamp, I have only been able to hear it through my Audio Technica M70x cans so far, and I am very impressed. One of the selling points for me was the 40 Hz low shelf (I think the Microbass' is at 60 Hz, I can't figure out why a lot of bass pres don't boost at 40 Hz). Being able to combine both channels gives you 2 sweepable mid eqs.

The main reason I got it is for using it with my Godin A5 Ultra fretless, which has two 1/4 outs - one for the piezo and one for the magnetic pickup. Sending each pickup through a different channel gives me a lot more control and really brings this bass to life.

It is small and light, and another plus is the aux in and headphone out for practicing. The only thing I'd like to see added to this pedal would be the compressor like the Microbass has. Maybe I'll need to get a Multicomp now…
