Eden E 2700 cast bell tweeter w/ Avatar

I did the search and no answer> What I was wondering was how well do these tweeters perform and is there ANY HISS, or are they nice, smooth and clean sounding which is what I am guessing from a high end product as Eden, And will Eden sell them to a non Eden owner ?

Why am I asking, Well because I can't stand the tweeters in my Avatar cabs they were disconnected the second day. I really love everything else about them, but I found the tweeters rather harsh with a very notable hiss to me even at low levels, and was wondering if this could be a doable upgrade that I could just do a drop in and use the cross over already in my cabs.

I did see the mid mod here on Tb that others have done with much success and that looks like a nice up grade as well, but a little more difficult for me. what I think would be ideal is put the Eden cast bell tweeter in my 2x10 neo and maybe do the mid mod on my 1x12 neo.

Could this be done ? and are they expensive?

Any thoughts on this or advise from my fellow Tbers

I'm not sure about compatability of Eden tweeters for your project but I can tell you that on all my Eden cabs I usually have the tweeter dial set flat at 12 o'clock and can barely notice any hiss at all. Only if I'm dialled up to gigging volume and I'm standing right next to the cab can I detect a very very faint bit of hiss, but certainly nothing that stands out as noticable or anoying. They pretty much dead quiet.

Give Eden CS a call and see if they'll send you one, otherwise you might have to order one through an Eden dealer. You're in the USA so you should be able to get one through CS.

Hiss levels depend mostly on the amount of noise produced by the amplifier. The Eden tweeters are fine, but there may be other tweeters/midrange drivers which would be better. Hopefully one of the speaker gurus will comment....

+1
On sort of a side note, I blew up the tweeter on my DR Bass Rx212 cab from using a questionable instrument cord, only to discover it had a cheapo Pyle that can be found on a bunch of online sites for around $5.99. I replaced it with an Eminence APT-80 that sounds much cleaner, at least when I attempt my semi pathetic Gary Grainger impression.

If you think the sun will cease to rise do to the beaming of the third harmonic of the highest note you can physically play on your 20 fret 4 string, perhaps a re - calculated crossover with an Eminence MR8" or LACB6" might be worth it to you; it wasn't to me - YMMV.

Any more gurus feel free to chime in, I really don't think it is my amp that is causing the tweeters to hiss, I may be wrong but have noticed hiss on several amp makes and cabs in the past and I have grown to dislike them for that reason and disconnect them.

I think of Eden as a high end product to me, just can't afford any of there stuff. But think there tweeter may be the ticket could be wrong again but what I heard it may be promising.

I don't think a good tweeter should have any hiss at all set at noon or less, I find it not acceptable.

I was also thinking my stock cross over may work as well, which is great if it does since I am not real good at the tech end.

It would be nice hear from Spode or Bill F on this or others that build cabs or have done mods of this nature

I still like the idea of the mid but I don't know if I could pull it off by myself just yet. + with the tweeter in one cab and the mid in the other might be a great thing.

Yes you are wrong. Tweeters do not produce hiss they reproduce it. If the amp is not producing any hiss then the tweeter has nothing to do until you hit a note. Any speaker is best matched to its crossover so just replacing a tweeter with another make and model is not the ideal thing to do.

Paul

P.S. Hiss is always a product of the amp never the speaker. If you disconnect the tweeter the hiss is STILL there but the woofers are less able to reproduce it than a tweeter would be.

I think the Eden 2700 tweeter is the best sounding I've used. The Foster in the SWR cabs is good too, but I prefer the Eden 2700 (Not the other tweeter they use in some of the Nemesis Series - I hate that one). It may require that light bulb protection circuit though, so be sure to ask if you get one.

Do you have a compressor in your signal path? If so, it could be pulling up the noise floor when you aren't playing. Just a thought...

I doubt the OP is still looking for advise on this nearly four year old post. Or are you just into necromancy? :hmm:

Gblier-
I appreciate the resurrected thread. Hiss, like hum and buzz are annoyances and it's helpful when the physics professors chime in with basic reminders.

I noticed the statement of "always disconnecting the tweeter" and thought something was afoot in the amp head; and I am seriously behind the curve of knowledge here.:D

and for even more necro-love..

what exactly is wrong with the tweeter in the Nemesis series amps?? and exactly *which* series of Nemesis amps are you referring to??

i have a later model NC-212 and i had thought the tweeter went out in it, since i really couldn't tell it was there while playing.. only to realize it was functioning and with it disconnected, i could immediately tell it wasn't there.. to me, it's so transparent, i couldn't tell if it was there, until it wasn't..

i don't get *any* hiss from it, even at higher volumes.. (gain at 10 o'clock, master at 10)

so, either my hearing truly is damaged.. which might actually be a factor.. or, i have lower standards for a tweeter's presence than others..

while i thought it was out, i considered replacing it with the E2700..

Read the complete thread. Hiss comes from the amp, not the tweeter. When's the last time you heard hiss from a cab that wasn't plugged into an amp?
