Eden Question

yup, eden and warwick are an awsome match IMO they really seem to compliment each other well
of course that particular tone is also a good deal to do with the Dirty blonde, which doesn't really sound much like a typical warwick IME but more like a fender type tone - very nice bass actually!

Why the hell is the audio in the video NOT matching what he is actually playing on his bass? His hands are all over that fretboard yet the riff is floating mostly on a low F#. I hate video-editors who just want pretty, so it can piss off us actual musicians.

BUT! I suggest you go try out all the Eden cabs you can. Can't go wrong with the WT550, but their cabs give a very broad range of tones. The 210XLT is the classic Eden. The D210XST is deeper, smoother, less midrange hump, much more low end. The D212XLT is what I'd consider Eden's best tone. A blend of the two, good low end, rippy growling midrange. The 410XST is a MONSTER of low end rumble and is an ideal for any 5-string low B slingers.

that is not the truest sound of Eden, IMO. This guy is notorious on the Warwick forum for not displaying the true sound of either the Warwicks or the Edens. He has a very very trebly, clicky sound w. no punch. An actual Eden will sound full with nice top end clarity. They really allow Warwicks to growl, especially the louder you play. He gives you only a glimpse of what you can achieve with a Warwick and Eden.
However, I can say with sincerity that my Eden rig sounds very very nice. It's incredibly clear. YOUR bass sound comes out, and for a Warwick, that means growl! After the clarity, you get this indescribable (sp?) smoothness and warmth that is the TRUE Eden tone. This smooth punch is what cuts through the mix along with the growling highs and mids.
I notice you have a SS2. If you want to know how that bass will sound with an Eden, just turn on any old Dirk Lance recording with Incubus, specifically SCIENCE or Make Yourself. I get that sound in about 5 seconds w/ my SS2. Note that I changed my pickups to Seymour Duncan AJB5 and an STC3a preamp.
With the MEC's, I had to work the EQ a little more to get the growl and/or have a lot of finger attack to get close to the Dirk sound. With the new electronics, I can ease up the fingers and don't have to work the EQ at all. Everything stays flat with the Enhance either off or at 9 oclock.

It's an open-air camcorder mic, but it's quite clean and accurate. If you want, I can try to bounce a recording for you of just my 550 into my 210XLT. I'll put my brother's condenser mic in front and do a minute worth. Would that help? I'll even do the same through my 212XLT if you wanna hear it.

Some starting guidelines:
Whichever amp they have there, start with the EQ set flat. Everything at 12 o clock. I'm dead honest and serious here, I do NOT use my EQ for any cutting or boosting. The only changes I make are at the gig when I find the stage too muddy. If so, I dial down my EQ. If it's a flat and stale stage, I boost the low end, but only one line more. If my Bass knob is at 1 o clock, it's RUMBLING. So go very carefully when you first start noodling with the EQ section. The EQ is very powerful and will influence your tone very quickly. Moderation!
The Enhance Knob is a nifty feature, but has pros and cons. It's a midrange cut and low/high boost all in one. Gives your tone a Scooped-V effect. PROS: Excellent when recording. I use the DI and the Enhance at 11-12 o clock, and it sounds beefy yet growling. Also helpful when playing at bedroom level or jamming along to CD's to help feel the low end rumble. CONS: can be flat-out DANGEROUS to your speakers when played at gig volume levels! All that extra low end rumble will fart/blow your cones, and the extra high can really pierce your ears if you have your cab's horns on as well.
For starters, leave the Enhance off and try out the amp at full volume. Get the feel of how it sounds at high levels with the EQ flat and your input gain's limiter light just barely blinking. Get a strong source signal, and let the amp do some work for you. Then, after you hear how the amp's natural sound differs from your previous amps, dial it down to half volume and dial up the Enhance knob to see how it affects the tone. Don't forget that it can and will be damaging to speakers if you're playing at the amp's full volume! Plus it will make it very very easy to clip the hell out of the power section.
Good luck on the hunt. Don't forget Evilbay and Craig's List to help you hunt for used gear, cuz 2/3 of my rig came from Craig's List! CONVENIENT!

Anyways, I was thinkin about a 410/212 stack. I'm also considering Aguilar GS, and Mesa Powerhouse. I don't like a 'nasal' tone, I like it thick sounding like the clip. Would you recommend the XST or XLT line? Also, how's Eden's 212? Thanks again...

It's definitely thick, lots of low end for a 5-stringer, but it retains the growly, rippy Eden tone. You'll have to do some listening, to really understand each cab's differences.
Yeah, people are bagging that guy's clips all over the net. I can't say much about his playing, but I LOVE the tone...

I would go with the 210xst/212xlt stack over the 410/212 stack. The 410 overpowers the 410 IMHO. The 210/212 is a peerfectly balanced set-up. I used to run this set-up made the mistake of getting rid of it. I have an 210xst and just recently ordered my 212 again...lol....I like both the XLT's and the XST's. They are completely different creatures. The ideal arrangement for me is 1 xst and 1 xlt. The xst gives you all of the bottom end you would ever need. They go really deep and smooth. The XLT's will give you the mid range "growl" that Eden is known for. A 210xst/210xlt stack is a crazy loud rig as well. Perfectly balanced.
I am currently running dual 210xst's and I love it, but I am adding a 212 and will pick up a 210XLT if I can find a decent deal on one.
my thumb bass really likes the eden tone - better than my fenders do anyways...
