Eden vs. Ampeg Vs. Ebs?

Hi all! That is my first massage in here. I hope I did it well. o:-) I'm now before amplifier buying. The band where I will play will give gigs in little clubs, and in festivals too. I would like to buy 4x10 cabinet and a head. I play most of the time jazz, funk, fusion, little rock styles.(I play harmonics, slap, fingering) I looked for some setups for example:

EBS HD350 Head with EBS Evolution proline 2000 4x10 cabinet.

or

Eden WT405 with EDEN D410XST.

or

Ampeg SVT3Pro with Ampeg SVT-410 HLF.

Which setup do you prefer for these playing styles? In my country there are no EBS equipment in the shops, so I can't try them out. :-(

Thanks for reading!
Bye!

I love Ampeg but I have serious problems with their quality control over the last 10-12 years. Pressboard cabinets and cold solders are not good. When an SVT 3 Pro works, it sounds great, and even the pressboard cabs sound great, too, but it's such a crapshoot nowadays that I'd rather not take the chance.

Eden...some people love their Eden gear like no other and swear by it. I am not one of those people. I have never played an Eden amp rig I liked. It's very much a love/hate thing, so I would make darn sure I liked it before buying one.

EBS...never tried their amps, but out of those three, I'm more inclined to go with them. It's based on nothing more than a giant dislike for Eden and a big downturn in Ampeg's quality control. But if not for the quality control issues, I'd say go with Ampeg, because when they work, they work very well.

Hopefully you will find someone who has actually tried or still owns the three brands. My humble opinion? If you are unable to try all three and decide for yourself, they are all great amps, and any one should be very capable in the right hands. Enjoy, and have fun deciding, and I hope you find a great deal.

With my Eden WT-400 and D410 XLT I've gotten perhaps the best bass tone I'll ever hope to get. The EQ in the amp also allowed me to get a great tone out of an Ampeg 410 I recently used and a Bergantino 112, too. The other set ups may work very well, too, but I'm happy with what the Eden delivers.

Have fun sorting it out!

I think these amps have very different characteristics. Ampeg is more rumbly and boomy some might call it muddy. Eden and EBS are more "hi-fi", crisp, clean and clear. It depends on what kind of sound you're after. My SVT4 Pro and 810 cab gets very growly at high volumes and is definitely not a modern bass sound, even with modern basses.

I own both and Eden WT-800B and an Ampeg SVT-VR. I consider them to be (very debatably) amongst the top in the Solid State vs. Tube worlds. The SVT gets 90% of my work, depending on how my back feels that day. Both amps are slamming. I wouldn't touch an Ampeg solid state amp tho; if you're gonna go SS, there are much better options for the money.

Ampeg should be three separate companies:

Ampeg God Tone: represented by the SVT-VR, old vintage Ampegs, and, to a large degree, the SVT-II. This is "the sound" aka "the tone" aka "it."
Ampeg "Close Enough" Tone: represented by the SVT-CL, SVT-II Pro and countless others. Basically, they took the God Tone and messed with it by adding EQ's and separate Preamp stages and Tube Protection and Blah blah blah. Every step added more function, but took away a slice of tone.
Ampeg "Imposter" Tone: All the solid state heads they've put out, especially the flagship SVT-IV Pro. They're trading on the name here, and using buzz phrases like "tube emulation," etc. Show me a 1000W IV Pro, and I'll show you a middling, muddy bass head that gets embarrassed by any of their 300W tube lineup.

Anything in the God Tone category is very, very bright and punchy. It has all the crisp characteristics and responsiveness you could ever ask for, and is the opposite of "boomy" or "muddy." Sadly, most people who think they know the "Ampeg sound" have only played "Imposter" or "Close Enough", so their notion of Ampeg are words like "muddy" and "boomy."

Thanks for answering! The most I would like, is hear all what I play, and many low sounds. :-) For example I play harmonics, but when I play harmonics in a band, it can't hear. :-( I will try Ampeg head with ampeg cabinet, and with Eden cabinet! I'm very interesting about this! :-)

Again thanks for helping! :-)

Gyarmo, at the risk of incurring the wrath of the Markbass backlashers on here who just love to pop out of the woodwork when anyone says something good about Markbass, if you're looking to hear what you play and get good harmonics out of your amp rig, I strongly suggest taking a look at the Markbass Little Mark II before you make a decision. It's pretty inexpensive for a 300w head, and to my ears, it sounds identical to whatever bass I happen to be playing with almost no extra coloration unless you add it yourself. And the harmonics pop out great, even the non-traditional harmonics. Plus it works great with practically every speaker cabinet on the market. I haven't heard a cabinet yet that it didn't improve its sound.
