Eden WT300 or SWR Bass350?

OK - done pimpin' but a serious other dimension to the original question. From the above I get that the Eden is Warm which makes sense to me as their cabinets strike me as sterile sounding.
The SWR is punchy / bright maybe brittle. I thought the Golly 4x10 was kind of muffled sounding.
Are these heads really designed to be part of a single manufacturer system. That is head and cab from the same mfg ? You know 2 approaches to the same basic goal ?
I'm in the hunt for a head at the moment. I was thinking Hartke 3500 or GK or SWR. I actually hadn't considered the Eden. I don't think they have a dealer in Portland so that's one reason.
From a tonal perspective, how do the GK 700/800, the hartke 3500 stack up with the WT-300 and SWR 350 ?
The head is going to be used primarily as a bass monitor powering a pair of theil cabs, 1x15 w/D140 and the occaisional 1x15, 2x10 as a jamming rig.

Hey, was it you that I talked to that was in Underwood? I used to live in the White Salmon area, and am moving back Gresham/Portlan OR in August...
Anyway, Funny you ask, I've got a GK700RB and an Eden WT-300 right now (and the GK is for sale...
)The GK is brighter, less warm than the Eden, and a bit more versatile. It can get warm, but it can also get really snappy and Flea sounding, the Eden can't get bright like the GK/SWR stuff can. It's also got more power than the WT-300. It's a great amp, very clean and clear sounding. Sorta like an SWR, but more rubbery, if that makes sense. I've only had a passing experience with Hartke stuff, but I hear pretty good stuff.
The WT-300 just hasd MY sound, but the 700RB is a great amp to stack up against the SWR/Eden/Hartke. It's a solid state preamp, so you're getting a very solid, clear sound. It really doesn't get "tubey" though it can ger very warm with some EQing: or a wooly sound I 0(zero) everything but the bass, which was flat, and it was warm, but still had a little edge to it (also using a bright bass, so that mighta helped).
Overall I'd call the SWR Hi-Fi and clea, the Eden a Tube style heater, and the GK a rubber band.
Hartke, well, it's kinda like Peavey. It's bland.
Yep! that's me in Underwood. Thanks for the review of the Eden/SWR/Hartke/GK stuff. Living out in the sticks it's a little difficult to get a chance toplay with this stuff. I have a pretty significant travel schedule and the last thing I want to do when I get back to Underwood is drive to Seattle or Portland for a music store tour. More fun to play in the studio at home!
I've always been a bit suspicious of the hartke stuff. Something about it just doesn't look right...saw Stu Hamm using it on one of the 'Satch tours though and his tone wasn't too shabby. He was running 4 of the 4x10's and a rack full of heads & other stuff though so god knows what he was also using.
What are you asking for the GK ?

I have a Bass 350, an early one (a '94) and have done a direct comparison between it and a WT-300 with an Eden 210XLT, and with both amps flat, I liked the Eden's sound better - a little fuller naturally. I felt like I had to push the 350 to get the depth I wanted.
I liked it so much that I never forgot, and just bought a '94 WT-300 which is on it's way to me now...
By the way, when I bought the Bass 350, I dumped the tube that was in it (GT - gritty) and put in a JJ ECC83s and it really helped the sound - smooth silky highs, and it tightened up the bottow (was a bit flabby with the GT). I am going to do the same thing to the Eden when it arrives. Love their tubes...

I'm a big SWR fan and I've never played a WT-300, so naturally, I'd say go with the Eden...

Seriously, I have played through a WT-800 and thought it was a great amp (still like my SM-900 better, but that's me). The WT-300 gets praise as one of the real 'benchmark' amps out there. On the SWR side of things, it's really the SM-400/500 that qualifies as the benchmark sort of amp more than the 350. I don't know if a used SM-400 would fit your cost/weight constraints, but I think that might be the more interesting comparison.

If that were the choice, I'd have to go Eden. The SWR 400 was quite underdesigned in the cooling dept.
