Eden wt800 stereo effect loop...

Hi all Bass Man !

I owned an Eden wt800 of 1999

I successfully connect Reverb and chorus pedal on the stereo effect loop ( post preamp)
Not surprise all of you saying I loose attack and definition on the Low registers ..

So I try unplug 1 return ( right for low frequencies) , switch to bi-amp mode for just add effect in mono to the higher frequencies... ( left return for HF )

While it miss the second return the wt800 copy the return with effect to the other ( maybe the only way to inject signal and work) , so I got effect on both output..

How can I correctly recover the preamp output for the second return?
Don't sure it's safe with some DIY cables thing..

Will be very happy to ear people with experience on modulation effects on the High frequencies, how you deal with it or your opinions on it

King regards

Nicolas

After reading a good manual , it's say that while only plug the Letf return , the signal is copied
For mono effect on post preamp.

I will try the right return for effect .. but be afraid no signal gonna go on left cab..
Tell you soon

From the manual I found:

Mono Pre-EQ Effects Send/Return – These standard 1/4 inch jacks allow you to send and receive your signal to and from external devices. This effects loop is positioned post (behind) the compressor and before the Enhance control and the tone section. This loop is at line level; do not use instrument level effects in this loop as they tend to be overloaded by the higher signal level which can cause distortion.

Stereo Post-EQ Effects Send/Return – These standard 1/4 inch jacks allow you to send and receive your signal to and from external devices. This effects loop is positioned post (behind) the tone section. This loop is at line level; do not use instrument level effects in this loop as they tend to be overloaded by the higher signal level which can cause distortion. To use with mono effects, return the signal to the Left return.

It appears to have two effects loops. The sends for both loops are mono. The Post FX loop has a stereo return. If you plug into the Left return the signal goes to both jack L/R.

This is from an earlier version, but the stereo Effects Return is probably wired the same way in your amp.

When no plugs are inserted:

The signal from the Send is passed along to both Returns.

If a plug is inserted into the Left return:

As you can see the signal goes through the contact in the Right return, and travels through to the tip connector.

If you insert a plug into the Right return, you should get this:

The switch contact is broken between left and right.

I would assume the Left return still gets the signal from the Send, but it depends on how the Send is wired. If the Send has a switching circuit that interrupts the signal, then you need to rig up a mono Y splitter. Send one of the outputs to your effect. Send the other output to one of the returns. Send the signal from the effect to the other return.

I could not find the schematic for the Stereo Effects Return for your era of amp, so this is my best guess. I could certainly be wrong.

@Wasnex Hi and thanks for answer with so much details

I connect just the Left return and it does what you show here, but when I try to connect only the Right, sound go weird , effect on both side but sound's not really good with a poor control of the Balance.

Is there any loose or signal by using o mono Y splitter on the send , after the preamp ?

I was thinking of conncect a boss Ls2 to duplicate signal but .. if the splitter do the job It's more easy..

Thanks again
I will continue to search

Take care

It could be the jacks are wired different than the diagram I posted. Or it could be the switching contacts are damaged. I did find a schematic for the WT800C and it looks like it is significantly different in some ways. Unfortunately the schematic does not include the wiring diagrams for the jacks, so all I can do is guess.

If you have an unused 1/4 TS plug, insert it into the Left Return. This should kill the signal in the Left Channel. Hopefully it will clean up the signal in the Right channel.

Then reverse the connections. Insert the dummy plug into the Right Return and run your effects to the Left Return. This should kill the right channel and clean up the left channel.

If both act as I predict, I believe a Y cable would work.

Before trying to diagnose what's going on, I have to ask, "when was the last time you cleaned the 1/4" jacks on the back of that WT800A ? Reason I ask is the signal path goes through just about every single jack back there and if you have one that is corroded it can cause some of the problems you mention. If you haven't cleaned those jacks within the last year, get some Deoxit D5 (red can), turn the nozzle to "L", which is light, and clean those jacks. Best way to do that is to use a 1/4" plug, spray some DeOxit 5 on the plug and then move it in and out of each jack 10 to 15 times (spray it and clean the jack, spray it again and clean the next one - wash, repeat). This needs to be repeated on an annual basis to keep it clean and functioning properly. If you find one that feels rusted (really rough or abrasive feel), spray some DeOxit on a Q-tip with the long post for cleaning contacts and use that on it.

If you've done that recently and still have the problem, then I'm actually going to defer to Armin, @Bassmann1968, on this one. He has worked on them and knows the electronics inside and out. He was a moderator and our electronics guru on the Eden Forum. I can answer most questions and I have copies of almost all the manuals in pdf form if anyone needs one because I was also one of the moderators, but Armin can get into the weeds with you if needed on parts, appropriate reading parameters on them, etc. I actually have the same power section and power supply on my WT500/800 as your 1999 WT800, but mine doesn't have all the connections that the "real" WT800's did and the only effect I have is a chorus, which I haven't used yet. Hopefully Armin will pop in here and help out.

Hey @bassman1968, would you mind popping in here and going through this.

Hi @Rip Van Dan

Thank you very much for your answer here

I've cleaned all jack output 4 months ago when I got the head, with electronic contact's spray and Q-tip
No need to force to plug all 1/4 jack

I tried chorus with stereo output ( so R L returns connect) and get the stereo of the effect work nice.
Not what I want, cause loose Low end and definition

Think maybe the mono return mode only work like the manual says , to the Left return and copy the signal for both output, and while only plug a Right return it's doesn't work..

So , now , for have modulations effect on only one output I connect a Boss ls2 for splitt the signal .
1 with chorus reverb -> Amp A
2 no effect -> Amp B

Amazing Job for the Ls2 LOL
So looking to the high quality passive splitter to duplicate signal.. what do you think ?

Thanks you very much for your previous answer
So great to have Bassist and Passionate To exchange with
Take care

Hi @Bassmann1968

Thank for answer
Cleaning was done at reception of the head 4 months ago, all 1/4 Jack and inside the box.. fan etc...

The stereo effect loop work well ( with a Boss Bf-3 )
The point is , for no loose Low end, definition and attack, connect the mono output ( bf3 ) to only one return ... and then get a dry signal on the 2nd amp of the wt800..

Manual says with one ( Mono ) return only , connect the Left , and it will copy signal ( with effect) to the other amp..
So effect on both cabs, not my wish..

So I try to only connect the other return ( right ) maybe to ear : effect on Right , dry on Left but it doesn't work well... effect on both sound blurred and a poor balance control to the 2 outputs..

So I need to splitt send signal
1 for BF3 amp A
2 for dry amp B

Just use now a boos ls2...

Thanks for answer up there
Problem fixed for me with this solution
