Eden WTDI Preamp, a short review

I use it as "a second Channel". I play my Main Bass (active) over my 700RB-II with the WTDI bypassed. My other Bass wich I use Live for a few Songs is passive and I use the WTDI to adjust the Output-Level, so that both Basses are equal and I shape the Sound for this passive Bass with the WTDI..

That's fair. It's just that, for my uses, everything I'm plugging into is perfectly happy accepting an instrument-level signal already, so it's really only the tone shaping options that I was interested in. While I like the compressor in the WTDI, it's nothing that blows away the other compressors I have, and the EQ stuff seemed aimed at...well...someone who isn't me.

I think it's a fine enough unit. I just don't think it works with me, my stuff, or how I wanted to use it (primarily for recording).

When I got mine, I was mostly looking for a small, useful DI and a compressor for sustain. I think the WTDI does those two things quite well. I did not need a lot of eq options. I still don't.

I can totally see that use case. That's kinda what I meant when I said that it seems well suited for changing a sound you don't like, rather than making one you do like a bit sweeter. The EQ tools in this thing, while not as flexible as Eden is maybe known for, are still incredibly powerful.

I found the extra range comes in handy for fixing a really bad backline amp. You have to be careful in that use because your D.I. may be too extreme for the P.A. then...

It 100% reminded me of my instrument sales days, and the tones that people would dial up to either slap or tap out their one-man epics.

Which is to say, I guess, that it feels more like a knob designed to sell the unit than one designed to be useful after you've bought it. Of course, it's not Eden's fault that most people demo gear with material wholly unlike what they'll actually be using that gear for.

I'm set in my ways as a long time Eden user, but that enhance knob : I call it the "get lost in the mix knob".

I love my WTDI, and use it at 2 different venues a month with different PA systems and get the exact same results. That's where the adjustability in the unit shines. A little bit goes a long way.

Sure there could be improvements made, The Enhance wouldn't be as touchy, the input would have a -6Db pad, the compressor would have a little more adjustment, the blue light would be dimmed down and the EQ would be a 4 band parametric. But Its not priced to compete with the Navigator.

At the end of the day, its a $150 DI... And should be treated as such.

You paid $150? That's too much. Amazon's been selling them for $130-$135, free shipping and no tax.

And yeah, it does what it does. I'm just not impressed by what it does. No big. Easy to return.

Amazon wasn't selling these 2 years ago for that price.
I liked mine so much I recently bought a back up, and I payed $95 bucks for it.

On the newer Models the Blue LEDs have been replaced for not that Bright red ones.

Well, I bought a little practice amp last night that has an effects loop. Will try out the WTDI in that capacity and see if I feel like its tone stack adds anything.

As a preamp the WTDI doesn't really belong in the FX loop.

I got you wrong then, in the loop means to me
Bass, amp, fx send, WTDI, fx return, amp.
Sorry, it sounded like you wanted to use it in the loop.

Nah, I just meant that, since the amp has a loop, I can try out bypassing the combo's preamp.

I did this the other night with my peavey minx. The WTDI made that little cheap amp sound 10X better. Much more extension both way deeper and higher.

As mentioned above, I like it as an Outboard EQ for my passive Yamaha BB415 Backup Bass. Gives me more tonal Options. What I didn't like are the Knobs, as i find, they are hard to read. Gets hard, if you are on Stage. I changed that... Compare:

Here is how I use mine "In the FX loop"

By using the tuner out it's an unaltered instrument level. However, these days I'm running both cabs from the Mesa.

Just been looking at this pedal recently as a good one stop shop for a di and preamp. There doesn't seem to be much info on the Eden site, but I did find this:

The WTDI from Eden Amps is a preamp and direct box for bass guitar with an integrated 3-band EQ and compressor. The WTDI (World Tour Direct Injection) features a low-shelf bass control with 15 dB of cut or boost at 30 Hz. Additionally, there is a button to add a bass boost to your sound. The mid control offers 15 dB of boost or cut at a selectable frequency of 550 Hz or 2.2 kHz using the mid shift button, while the treble control offers a high-shelf EQ with 15 dB of boost or cut at 5 kHz.

Is this correct does anyone know? EQ points and being shelving? It is not from the Eden site as far as I know. Plus is the DI POST effect/eq?
