Is this some new hipster thingy?

No, it's actually an old hipster thingy...well, that's to say that the movement is relatively old. Many older people still practice straight-edge practices (i.e., abstaining from drugs, alcohol, and promiscuous sex); they just realized that once they became old enough to legally rent a car that Friends Stand United were actually thugs no better than the average street gang and that there was no need to paint Xs on their hands and proclaim to be part of some social movement that contained millions of people around the world who practiced similar beliefs but aren't all self-important about it.

You guys have your own day? Ya learn something new every day...

historically this forum has been far from accepting of straight edge.

We don't take too kindly to folk like you around here!

See?!?! Now beat it fella!

I claimed edge for many years (and have an edge tattoo), but dropped the "label" a while back. I don't call myself edge (anymore), I have never drawn an X on my hands, I was never preachy about it, and I have never "celebrated". I just don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. That's my personal choice and it has to do with my past. I like to live a clean lifestyle now and that's that.

I have enough labels as it is. I think the three I live by are "cynical", "vegan", and "***hole". More often than not, they are all used together in a nice little string of words.

I've been to parties where people asked if I wanted a drink. I didn't slap them or stomp around the room and put up a fuss. I simply said, "Nah, man. I don't drink". I know a few edge guys who act like morons and think they're better than everyone. They're not even militant or tough guys. They're just little fruitdongs who think they're cool as hell.

If I had to choose, I would drink before I ever touched another drug or cigarette. I just don't care for it.
