effect in Sir Psycho Sexy

theres is an interview with him on bassplayer.com where he sais he is using bassballs. i play it on my stingray and it sounds quite right

Because I've read that interview recently, here's what Flea had to say about the Bass Balls in it ( Link Removed ) :

"It's funny-"Coffee Shop" would never have been a song if it weren't for this effect called the [Electro-Harmonix] BassBalls. [Ed. Note: For more about the BassBalls, see "Clearance Classics" in the July/Aug '95 Product Profiles.] I started playing with it one morning in Hawaii, and it had the most amazing underwater, Bootsy kind of sound-and it also had this siren effect going on. But when we got to L.A. to start recording, the box never made the sound again. I got so mad, I crushed it! I almost didn't even want to record the song, because to me, it was all about that bass sound. I ended up using a Boss Dynamic Filter on the record. "

Coffee Shop! Different song, different album, and he didn't even end up recording it with the bass balls!

Meanwhile, I searched Google Groups and found:

'A while back someone asked how Flea got his sound on "Sir Psycho Sexy."

Here's what he said in Bass Player (Feb. 92): "I used an old Mu-Tron.... Its power was running out when we were recording, and I laid down a track while someone was outgetting a new battery. But we couldn't get the Mu-Tron to sound as cool with a fresh battery, so we ended up keeping the track" (p. 42).'
