Effect suggestion

I'm playing in a band with only one guitar and theres a part in one of the songs in our set where he has to stop playing so he can scream. how can i effect my bass to make it sound like theres another guitar playing without losing the bass sound? (i have access to more than one amp if necessary)

A pedal with an octave up (Foxrox Octron, EHX micro POG) or a Whammy IV perhaps?

Also;
If you use a signal splitter to get you two signals, I find using a dirt signal and a clean signal together can achieve desirable tones - but it won't sound like two guitars unless you use some kind of phase shifter/chorus etc. on one of the signals.

I have been trying to work out a recording program and see what I can get out of my effects. Here is one result. All of the parts are played with a SX fretless fiver. The 'guitar' parts are run through a HOG, a Holy Stain for its' dirt, and then an English Muff'n. I was pretty happy with how guitar-like it sounded (not that I'm getting hired to run a studio anytime soon)

PS if you can run a different effect chain for your 'guitar' and bass, then it really adds to the two instrument effect. Bi-amping or blending will get that done.

AKAI Unibass was made for this. It can add octave up, even octave plus a 5th (to generate a guitar power chord), optionally add distortion to the processed signal while leaving your bass clean, and can either mix the two signals together or send them to separate outputs.

They are now discontinued which keeps the price fairly high though...

dannybuoy beat me to it, but I actually came back to this thread to mention the Unibass. Great pedal if you can find one. Some people didn't like the built in distortion, but I thought it sounded good, especially when blended with the clean bass.

Here's a very old clip from JazzAd using the UniBass, with 100% dry, 100% wet and then blended.
