That's no way to treat a customer. The singer guitarist in my band is the humblest you will find. I've overheard him say he was nothing without the band - and he's one of the best I know.

I'm of the mindset that if you have to bring attention to your t-shirt to a complete stranger... odds are good you may be less of a human than you are a musician.
Learning to read music, studying theory, and understanding how and why things work in music will absolutely make you a better musician. Citing that Hetfield has thrived in spite of being musically illiterate doesn't help your point. Reducing yourself to only needing a kick drum and "ILL HANDLE TGE REST" is insulting and not something to be proud of. I've dropped too many "musicians" like that to be bothered with them anymore.
Yes, it stinks to be belittled by a clerk in front of people you know. Especially when they cite the chords on your own tee shirt which you can't actually read. Still, I can't seem to place all of the blame on said cashier.
My suggestion is to sign up for bass lessons and an intro to music theory class.

Screw uppity Musicians! I played with 2 out spoken "Know it all" Guitar players! 1 studied Music the other was just more experienced than everyone! He became a singer & accquired a bad case of Lead singer diesease! He knew everything! not only music but the Biz & how to perform! it got ridiculous! 1 guy, you cant mention music theory without a lesson! the other was just a stubborn jackass that knew the business! yes it was frustrating! had to ditch both for peace of mind!! The worst was getting put down if you knew something they Didnt!! Worst was they both were really good players! just insufferably "Know it alls!!"

The way I see it is this: If someone decides to go to the trouble of conveying information in written form, presumably because they feel it might be of benefit to others, then great, that's a generous thing to do, but said information must be presented in a manner that makes it simple for others to comprehend.
Again, not a judgement of the OP, but on the style of writing used.

The writing errors are probably just a voice to text app.
With a modest amount of effort, in 90 days you can learn 900+ years of music theory. It is not that difficult. All it takes is putting in the time, just like if you want to learn to surf or fly an airplane....

I play bass. I know every chord. It's pretty much the only thing that's necessary to play bass.
I know one scale. There is only one scale. You flatten a note, and call it something else. Like it's some special peice knowledge that takes years of practice and dedication to learn. It's the same scale.
What chords are in a key, on the other hand, is something that I don't know. But, I know how and where to play what sounds good, and follows just about anyone, in just about any situation.
I play bass.
You could play better with some basic understanding of music theory. It’s not acceptable to be ignorant because “I play bass.”
It does indeed say something about a person. You believe it doesn’t? That also says something about you. And this post says something about me. I’m comfortable with all of that.

You sound like George from Seinfeld. The jerk store episode.
I played guitar almost 50 years and never learned to read music, just followed chords on a lyric sheet. I then joined a uke group of about 40 people (never touched my guitars again) and a year later the leader asked if anyone would take up the bass to fill in our sound. I discovered bass ukes and small bass guitars and went for it. Took a few lessons and learned a bit of theory in doing so.
There are arrogant bass players too. My group started playing on the patio of a sandwich shop every other Sunday a few months ago, with the word that anyone is invited. One Sunday a couple of the members came over and said a "professional" bass player friend would like to sit in, that he didn't want to step on anyone's toes, just play along.
But when he arrived, he brought a giant acoustic bass guitar, a large amp and proceeded to overpower me the entire 1 1/2 hours we played, showing off the bass to everyone. It was very obvious that he didn't give a crap about stepping on anyone's toes. A few weeks later he showed up again, to my dismay, and again blasted over me. To verify his inconsideration, I faked playing through most of the set, and when he came over to the leader and I, I said to him, "I'm not a good enough bass player to keep up with you." His reply was, "Oh no, no, I followed you all the way." I'm not a confrontationist and didn't tell him or anyone in the group what I did, just knew that he is arrogant a-hole.
(I try to be very careful with my writing to make it easy for people to read, proof reading a couple of times before posting, and grateful for the edit function.)

I got about a third of the way through your story. A dozen typos and no punctuation later I simply couldn't continue. You may be a musician but your not a writer.
Do yourself a favor and read your own post to see if you can follow it.
