Egotistical Guitarists Anyone?

As for keyboardists... a more physical approach will be necessary to keep them from going were they shouldn't ;-) .

2 months ago I told the keyboard player if they kept on using that much left hand I was leaving, and I'd slash their tires on the way out too. It seemed to get the message through as there have been no more issues with hogging the bass area.

She knew I wasn't serious, much. (I treat all musicians equally):ninja:

Sometimes guitarists don't know what they hear.
I've had a few experiences where there was too much bass overall, but it wasn't coming from me (alone).
Heavily overdriven guitars produce subharmonics that add boominess to the sound and equalizers with boosted lows make it even worse.
So if a guitar is covering the low register and getting in the way of the bass, rolling off the lows from it is much more productive than raising the volume of the bass.
Now, if the guitarist is uncooperative and wants to have the nice , full sound he uses on a much lower volume level, in his bedroom, then there's nothing to be done.

This. Many bedroom players don't understand that when playing with a band their EQ should be set up with less lows.
Just cause it sounds good when they are playing alone they think it is going to sound good in the mix.

Wow, I must be lucky, because in 40+ years of playing I've never run across an egotistical guitarist. They've all been pretty laid back. One of the guys I'm working with right now is an absolutely stellar player (Berklee grad) who runs MB kit exclusively, and he actually understands relative volume levels, frequency slotting, etc. If he gets too loud, he'll catch himself & turn down. No one's ever had to nudge him.

I was once in a band with an insecure guitarist, who was also the BL, and I got fhitcanned out of there for trying to help him with his guitar & vocal parts at a rehearsal he'd come to w/o having done his homework. So, I guess maybe that's one form of ego? The fragile kind rather than the proud/bombastic kind? I don't know.
