EHX Polychorus

I owned one for over three years. It is the most unorthodox-sounding chorus I've ever heard. The best way to describe it is as follows:

A chorus effect duplicates the signal, with one half being the straight-sound, the other being a vibrato. With most choruses, the two signals are crisp, almost seamless, even though there is a slight delay in between the two (the effect is based on delay) halves. This delay normally cannot be adjusted. Only a handful of the higher-end choruses, including the EHX Stereo Polychorus, Moog ClusterFlux and, well, that's all I can list at the moment, have delay time adjustment as a feature.

To get a Small Clone-like sound with a Polychorus is rather time-consuming, but, what it lacks in straight-forward, user friendliness, it more than compensates in sophistication and versatility. I have a rather long review of the Stereo Polychorus, whose censored name I choose not to use. It's marginally helpful in the technical portions, but it makes for an interesting read, if I do say so myself.

If the Moog ClusterFlux I purchased upon release didn't do what the Polychorus does, plus a whole lot more, I'd still have it.

Of course, even the ClusterFlux is not without its problems:

1. Availability - hard-to-obtain BBD chips mean limited availability
2. Cost - as a result, it costs $600 new
3. Size - like all Moogerfoogers, the ClusterFlux is enormous, and doesn't play nicely with many pedalboards - get a large Pedaltrain, or build your own
4. Power Supply - 9v, like a Boss, but center-positive, and it has a 300mA current draw, so if you use a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus, as I do, you need both the current doubler, which I don't have, and the polarity reversal cable, of which I have two (multiple Moogerfoogers).
5. Bypass - It's debatable, but some people hate the Moog bypass. No problems with my setup, though

Conclusion: If you have to have everything, kitchen sink included, get the Moog. If you want a very adjustable chorus, but have no burning need to change the shape of the wave, get the XO Polychorus.
