EHX, reliable?

i did a search and came up with nothing.

lately ive been needing a pog for several differnt uses, but trying to avoid electro harmonix at all costs. ive never owned something from them that diddnt die on me very quickly. normally id just say find an alternative, but unfortunately there is no other pedal that does what i need.

i had a muff, small stone, bassballs, and BMS. all died on me, specifically the BMS lasted literally about 2 hours before one of the sliders stopped working. i'm pretty gentle on my pedals, too.

so whats the deal with the construction of these pedal? ive heard people say that the newer ones are more durable. is this in any way true? the harmony central reviews have a bunch of people mentioning these pedals being weak and flimsy..

so in short, do i just have bad luck, or should i swear off EHX for good?

I think it depends. Most of the newer pedals, in the Aluminum boxes, are pretty hardy. The ones made of bent sheet metal tend to not fare so well. Conversely though, they are quite easy to repair - so i heard.

I have had no problems with my microPOG since i got it.

I've never had any problems with any EHX products since 75 when I got my first Small Stone.

I've had 8 different EHX pedals, both XO and old sheet pedal, and never had a single failure

I've had quite a few EHX pedals and have never had a problem with them. I also have a Big Muff that I've had for over 10 years that is still going strong.

I've had the sheet-metal ones go bad on me, and in the particular case of the Black Finger I'm reminded of a story I read from an EHX endorsing artist where he kept having them mail him new Black Fingers while he was on tour because they kept breaking.

I haven't owned any of the new ones long enough to have a problem with them.

I haven't had any problems with my microPOG, nor did I have any problems with the Blogger when I had it. I'm looking into a few more EHX pedals (BMS, nano small stone, holy grail [maybe plus], and maybe an electric mistress) and I don't think I'll have any problems.

I bought a used Q-tron, old style, on E-bay about a year or so ago and have had no problems with it. Even the bypass is good.

I've had small problems with two of the 14 EHX pedals I've owned. EHX's repair policy is great, even if something goes bad.

15 bucks gets anything fixed or replaced. All you do is contact them, get a number and mail it in with a money order.

I've currently 6 EHX pedals and bought and sold another with no problems (other than poor users manuals). Gig with'em all the time.

I have never had any problem with the 3 Muffs I own, nor my Hot Tubes.

I've had no problems with my 3 xo series ehx pedals at all, i think you've just been REALLY unlucky.

Same here. I think you've been extremely unfortunate. I've only owned two EHX pedals so I can't really comment but the guitarist in my band swears by EHX and has only had a problem with his (old-style) Frequency Analyzer. He got in touch with EHX and they had sorted him out within a week or two.

Been gigging regularly with a Metal Muff for the last 6 months and a Stereo Pulsar for the last 3, no issues.

Had a LBM for about a year before that, No issues. (apart from the noise )

I think you've just had a string of bad luck, it happened to me with Boss; had my ODB-3 and second GEB-7 go bad within a week of each other (I repaired them both in the end), but my 80's BF-2 just keeps on sounding awesome.

IMO, if you need a POG, buy a POG.

I had the "hazarai" knob break on a SMMH. The push-pull pot got bent. It was made of cheap metal. Ehx replaced it for $15, though, and it wasn't under warranty, so it is hard to complain - but seriously, this particular pot was made of cheap, crappy metal and was bound to bend/break after being stomped.

I've never had a problem with any of their pedals but the audible pop when engaging and disengaging is annoying.

I own a 78' Big Muff, a BBM, a Q-tron, a BMS, a Holy grail+, a Small stone and an old style Deluxe Memory Man. I gig on a regular basis and haven't encountered any problems for now.

I talked with a guy importing EHX products in Europe when I ordered my BMS, and he told me that there have been a defective batch of BMS, and that they sent them all back for servicing. In your case, I guess it was just bad luck... or another defective batch.
