EHX the Mole type pedal , good for boosting lows with DOD 250?

I'm finally satisfied with my effects chain . I love the grit the joyo gives , the brightness it adds to my sound , and I love the fuzz and character of the DOD 250 at the end of my chain .

However , I'm not maintaining my lows and low mids using the dod at the end of my chain , even with an EQ pedal boosting basically everything under 4k. I'm tried cutting and boosting every available signal, but I just cant get my low end to come through.

I basically use no pedals for clean, (volume and gain about 2 o clock everything else basically 12 , with the ultra high and low on , compression at 1.), the joyo for slight overdrive (mellow low gain settings), and the eq'd dod for my fuzz overdrive . If I crank my bass or low kids on my head, it is WAY too boomy clean . If I set it to perfect for clean, my dod eats the low end .

My idea is to get a pedal similar to an EHX mole for the sole purpose of adding low end to my fuzz channel. Based on what I've read , this seems like it should work .

I've had a EHX bass big muff pi deluxe, and I've tried every configuration imaginable to get it to sound even close to the overdriven dod 250, and I cant . I've also tried an ehx hot tubes pedal .


Any advice ?

After reviewing it , basically, it allows you to run your original signal in parallel with a separate channel, which it then allows you to turn the volume up or down on your original signal and the added signal?

So, in my case , I could run the DOD 250 in the loop of the LS 1, which would allow me to have a clean signal 100 percent with my distorted signal 100 percent as well?

Yes, it lets you blend your clean and effected signal. Might work for you (gives you the option to blend some clean signal like you could do on your bass deluxe bass big muff). I’m not using such a pedal, but it could work.

As for The Mole, my concerns would be that you would try to regain frequencies that are lost after your fuzz, which is sometimes hard to do (boosting something that doesn’t exist can be tricky). Other thing is that the Mole is a guitar pedal, so the lows it’s boosting might not be the lowest frequencies of a bass guitar. Not sure, don’t know that pedal.

In regards to a bass booster pedal, I was thinking of running it BEFORE the DOD , as a means to send a TON of low signal through the DOD . Come to think of it , om using an e q pedal before the DOD as it is, and it doesnt help boost the bass at all, lol.

I think I want to try the boss ls 1 .

Sorry, I found this to be too vague. To what are you referring? The Mole, DOD 250, LS-2? These and a few other pedals have been mentioned in the thread, so which one are you using that is "the same as having the tone totally rolled off"? Which tone, the tone on your amp? Your Pedal? Your Bass? Just looking for clarification, as it may help others.

Too true, you can't boost what isn't there, but regarding The Mole:

From the EHX Manual, the Mole "...was specifically designed for the bass player ...".
The mole's centre frequency goes from about 400 Hz down to 200 Hz when at its maximum volume.

The OP found the LS-2 worked well, as have I.
