Double Bass electric bass amp for double bass?

Hello all,

I'm having trouble finding an amp in my part of the world that is specifically designed for the double bass.
I've thought about ordering one online but the shipping usually costs a fortune.
So my question is...
Can one amplify a double bass through a regular electric bass amp. I have a Revolution Solo pickup from upton bass.
Any help appreciated.

Yeah.... I use an ampeg svt 3pro and get beautiful sounds. If you have two pickups, though, i have recently found out, it's best to have an amp with a high and low input so each pu has it's own dedicated input into the amp or a little like 2, if you can find it, or 4 channel mixer if your amp only has one input.

Try an Ampeg BA 112. It's a 12" kickback combo that works great for upright bass. It's only 50 watts, but it's a pretty loud 50 watts and you could probably pick it up for a couple of hundred USD or less if used. They also have a 15" version that's 100 watts.

If you can find Acoustic Image gear where you live, consider dropping the extra cash on one of their amps. They make separate heads and cabinets as well as combos and they know how to deal with the frequencies or rather the "nuances" of double basses. It's not cheap stuff, but it's worth the extra money!!

Of course, try and use any electric bass amp. I don't believe there are any upright amps out there, just so called "acoustic amps" like AI or Mark Acoustic, and to my ears they sound great on everything except an acoustic bass.
The CAD Audio od Arco from Denmark MIGHT be an exception, but they are not widely available.
If you can get Gallien Krueger amp or combo, you'll be fine.

You should try some electric bass amps. If you find a model that you like, try to find an owners manual that you can download. An amp will work best for DB if it as a 1 MegOhm input impedance or greater, which many modern amps have.

Many electric bass amps are "voiced" to provide particular tone quality. So you may have to work with the tone controls to get the tone you want out of an upright.
