Electric Guitar and Amp for 100$?

whats your take on this price for a unheard of but new, electric guitar and amp by california

the guitar said five knob distortion or something like that

what does that mean exactly? do electric guitars normally come with a distortion capability? i thought you needed a pedal for that

Also keep in mind i barely play guitar so this is not something that needs to be great quality

It looks pretty good for what it is.

But the description is far out

It's a five way pickup switch, not distortion.

I guess you could use the tremolo bridge for custom intonation, though it would be hard to set (there you got your whammy)

It's just a regular strat copy with a crappy 15W amp.

Properly good enough for practice, but you could end up with a really crappy guitar impossible to play.

I would rather invest in a cheap Epiphone or Squier guitar, unless you have a chance to try it out first.

If it's any consolation, it sounds like the seller knows less about guitars than you do.

I'd hold off and get a starter pack from a reliable brand. Hit up Craigslist, people are always selling those Squier and Ibanez starter packs for cheap after they buy them and realize that learning an instrument is actually kinda hard.

+1 to This.

Craiglist is packed with starter packs and sometimes even slightly better low-end instruments for cheap bucks. $100 should get you set. Plus, sometimes beginner gear isn't the most sturdy and if it's survived one owner, and is in good shape, chances are pretty god it's not a lemon.

If you're set on a new starter pack I'd suggest a Rondo setup.

Including shipping, it's around $140, but you're getting a beginner package from a company that tends to stand behind it's products. That said, $90 shipped is awfully cheap!

Lastly, consider just dropping $100 on an instrument (again, rondo has lots of options Link Removed ) and plugging it into your bass amp. It will sound just fine until you decide that you want to get a better quality guitar amp. $100 will go a good way on Craigslist too.

Just shop a little. GC is always running the Affinity starter packs for $99.00 and the regular price is not much more if memory serves, but check out youyr local sales paper, craigslist, etc. As has been mentioned, there is usually no shortage of decent starter instruments for a C note. A guy I know recently picked up one of those scaled down strats for $75 for his kid to learn on.

The newest Squier Bullet guitars are very playable and great for starters. They can usually be had for $100 -$130 new at Guitar center and are much better than the Crescent guitars.
