Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff

I got mine about a month ago. I've been running it with my Carvin B1500 and a 2x12. I quite liked it through that rig.

However....:)

That was before I got a borrowed Ampeg V4. Now the BBM through an all-tube amp is something else. Amazing, cutting, thick fuzz with lots of harmonics at all the three switch settings. Currently I'm using the "dry" mode with the fuzz and tone about 5 o'clock.

Lots of love for it so far,

Lyle

Probabbly my favourite way to us the BBM ha been in dry mode with an overdrive pedal running into it. this way the clean blended in is dirtied up too without being squashed through running through to gain pedals. Overcomes the problem of getting the two-basses playing sound that can happen with clean blended fuzz.

if you like the way that sounds.....try sticking a Boomstick Bottom Feeder into the mix (read between your OD and the BBM) total ear-gasm!

man, i still haven't been able to try one of these out. the actual good music store in town carries everything but ehx stuff, and the two closest guitar centers have them on special order only. well, it's on the christmas list. if i get it, i hope i like it. if not, i hope someone here will like it

What more does the bass one give you? i have an NYC one and am completly happy with it. Why drop another 60 bucks?

Well you should probably just read the thread, but to answer your question:

1) the bass response is MUCH improved over an NYC BMP.
2) The control knobs are optimized for bass, and you can get more useful settings
3) It's more compact (OK not more than the LBM but still) so it takes up less space on your board
4) It offers not 1 but 3 modes, including a VERY cool blendable mode, standard mode and "bass boost" (which not everybody likes but surely has its uses)

You never NEED an effect pedal, but the BBM is money well spent - even if you have a muff already

A big ++1 to the above. I've owned/tried many Muff variations (including a GGG "Bluebeard" clone), and I find the BBM to be the most useful....especially through my V4! I find I'm able to dial in some settings where I have much presence in the mix.
