Electro Harmonix "Deluxe Memory Man"

I can't speak for it on bass, but my lead guitarist just got one this past week. It definitely has that old school analog delay vibe to it. The vibrato and chorus setting could go from subtle to unusable very easily. I don't think you'd have any issue using it on bass and getting some cool sounds from it. $200 is also a great deal on it, I would snatch that up. You can't power it with batteries, it uses a 18 or 24 volt power supply.

24 Volt supply comes with the pedal, but it can run on an 18 if need be. I use one, traded my DD-20 for it and haven't regretted it for a second. No bass loss or anything but most delay pedals do not have that problem. It takes a few minutes to set up everything to where you like it, but it sounds fantastic. I would definitely pick one up for $200 while you have the chance, especially since a couple months ago someone had posted that electro harmonix was discontinuing the pedal due to environmental issues associated with some of the parts made in building the pedal, and immediately after the price shot up from $220ish to $320 on most websites.

Just for the record, the pedal isn't being discontinued. There was an issue with sourcing the bucket brigade chips used in the pedal, but EHX has found a source.

Still, jump on that $200 price. The prices have indeed gone up!

Update:

Yesterday I went back to the local music store and checked every single pedal. I have found my self that I dont like Electro Harmonix! :/
Yeap! Compared with Boss the EH pedals really suck to my ears. So I took back the Memory man (kept the softcase though) and I traded with a Boss bass chorus and a Boss octaver OC-3 (and ordered a Rocktron Black Cat Moan wah wah).
I ve found the EH working better with the electric guitar than the bass. I took there my amp head/cab and bass to test everything.... it just seems that EH are not changing my tone THAT much, and they ain't no cheap. I have found Boss pedals more effective, and as I like my tone = aggressive.
I ll post photos of my pedalboard soon enough hopefully.
And a detail for those who look into EH, I have found the smaller/cheaper EH models such as the Small Clone more effective than the Memory Man for example.

While I vehemently disagree with your "Boss > EHX" comments (:p), I'm surprised to hear you thought the Small Clone was better than the Deluxe Memory Man. That's a perspective I hadn't seen yet!

I haven't tried the DMM on bass, but I'd been wanting to buy one for a while. I think you just killed my GAS for it, though :D

His statements are false, continue GASing for one.

In my experience of the 10 delay pedals I have owned it is the best of them, probably only to be upstaged by the pigtronix echolution I will be acquiring soon. But do not let the nay saying of one man dissuade you from the amazing delay that is the DMM. (Because seriously, Boss > EHX? I don't think this opinion can be trusted, do you?)

And as for the feedback/delay knob ready to fry amps and blow speakers...its analog, thats what analog delay's sound like. It's the reason they are sought after by people, that amazing distortion/dirty sound they get once the oscillation kicks in...mmmm I'm gonna go play with mine right now.

i need to get something straight. does the chorus work on just the echo, or does it work on the straight signal as well? in my Pod, the chorus is only on the echo, is that something weird with Line6, or is that actually how it works?

Low, I wasn't trying to insult your opinion or anything, just messing around. But the purpose of that pedal isn't the chorus capabilities, its the delay/echo. So I can definitely understand why you wouldn't be happy with it if you were looking for primarily a chorus sound out of it, but for the delay function, I haven't found anything that I like more.

Moog, the chorus is added to the delay line, thats what modulated delay's do (at least all the units I've owned work that way) which is why it functions that way on your POD

Mystic, Board space is always a problem, you just need to get creative in fitting everything you want on there. I have absolutely no room for the echolution, but I AM going to find a way to fit it on my board.

thanks. i have wondered about that for a while. i have always thought that a modulated delay was a delay that had an LFO changing delay time constantly.
