Electronics wizards - series/parallel pickups - how/why?

Be sure to equalize the volume when comparing tone between settings. Our ears have a natural bias to prefer the louder sound sample, so it's important to remove that variable to do a fair comparison. Also it's better to equalize the volume at the amp because you will get a smidgen of treble loss when turning down the volume on a passive bass (unless it has been modified to include a treble bleed circuit on the volume control).
