Elixir to DR

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.

Hey All,

Usually, I use nickel Elixir religously, mostly due to their crazy-long life (they pay for themselves). Certain basses, though, are finicky with them. The new set on my Yamaha are certainly stiffer/tighter than the stock D'Addario XLs, just like an old ESP E-II's stock SIT Rock Brights. The stiffness, not gauge (same gauge), seems to equate to more rattling/buzz. I think now, that tension is more important than simply gauge, as I really can tell differences with flexibility between brands/types, even if indeed the same gauges.

So, I bought a set of DR Sunbeams, after wanting flexibility (considerably more than Elixir), not too bright like ss, and long life from an uncoated string. By far, DR and Labella have given me the best track records for life. I've never tried Sunbeams, so what can I expect? I know the lifespan won't compare to Elixir, but I'm curious about others' experiences with Sunbeams (or from Elixir to a regular string).

I am planning to do exactly the same for my P-bass. Let me know how you like the DR's.

Decided to stick with my Elixirs right now. Tried stringing through the bridge, and got a more relaxed feel. Yamaha's 45-degree, string-thru design on the bottom really makes a difference (as opposed to usual 90-degree, back of the body)

I'll do an update when I feel it's time for the DRs.
