I may be the only person that can't watch that girl's videos. "she's so cute and look at the fun she has" the joyous spirit painted on and that fake smile I just can't. It's about sucking in the views for $$ and any female playing bass gets tons more attention in a vastly male playing field. She does have a lot of help from mom and dad and lucky for her.
She is getting better at playing but I don't see her as any prodigy. I won't be buying a Sterling.
But hey if I don't dig her stuff that's just more for you!

Indeed. For beginners, they are a fine bass, but...

I dunno, I think if you buy a higher end, quality instrument for your child, they will be more inclined to 'want' to practice more. I grew up playing a Yamaha baby grand, I would open it up and revel in the booming, glorious tone that I got out of it. I looked forward to everyone going out, so I could really wail on it. A quality instrument is something.

Quality instrument doesn't mean expensive, though, right?

Very true on being a “personality” too early on. But does seem like her parents are really keeping a handle on her career and monitoring her celebrity. Personally, not sure it’d be something I might allow, IMO. Hoping though they stoke other fires just in case she hits a road block or just loses interest entirely. You know how growing up can be. She seems (for now) pretty well adjusted and still enjoying it all. Good for her.

Regarding the Sterlings and Markbass equipment. Good stuff, but I’m set with what I like. I’m sure the marketing ain’t aimed for a craggy jaded doofus like me.

Something tells me the scale length had more to do with her (or her parents') choice of bass than the name brand. It was either this or a Mustang.

She owns and plays many full scale basses...and plays them well.

She hits a different target audience. Little girls like seeing her videos. Sure there are complications, but I think she’s having a net positive impact on the bass community.

I'd say, most quality instruments will see higher price tags. Used is an option. Quality will be in the eye of whatever the beholder perceives it to be at a certain time. Skill level and budget may dictate the instrument that is right for the player, at that time. Some students demand more than others--and a more adept or even an average student, may be more likely to practice on a better made axe.
