Was listening to some 80's songs on a decent sound system and I just don't remember loving the bass sound on this song as much as I do now. Seems very punchy and piano like, which made me wonder if the bass parts may have been doubled by piano in the recording. It the bass sound that piano like or is it a combo of the two?

Dunno, but if he plays it now, betcha he uses a cane! hehe
Oh, he had one way back when, even before that song….

i don't hear a doubled piano --- just the sound of an EQ'd bass. it's a good part, but the tone of it doesn't sound "special" to my ears...just another option.
It never stood out to me until I heard it on this system. Could just be this particular song on this particular system. I have always liked a punchy, piano like tone so that could be part of it.

Just listened to it on YouTube - I know, not the best place for the best sound! But I'm hearing what you're hearing...there does seems to be a piano-like brightness to that bass sound. As a synth player, I've heard synth bass tones with that kind of brightness to them, especially synth slap/pluck bass and even synth piano in the lower register, so there may be some of that in there.
