Being a long time guitar player and new to the Bass I find myself paying more attention to the Bass lines in songs now especially while in my truck listening to the
radio. The other day Burning love by Elvis Presley came on the radio and what a tasty Bass run in that song , do not know who the original Bassist was ?

Emory Gordy Jr played on that song as Jerry Scheff was taking a break for a few months at the time.

I read an article a long, long, long time ago about the song, Burning Love and Emory Gordy's bass line. Trusting my memory and maybe I shouldn't, Emory was asked to play the bass on the song and he was not ready or prepared and he did what he did. When he heard the play back, he thought that the bass line was too excessive and wanted to do it over but Elvis said, "No!" "It stays!"

If someone can confirm this story, please let me know.

I’ve covered it in an Elvis tribute band and it does move along at a pretty fast clip…more so when doing an authentic “live Elvis show”. Not quite in cut-time but almost. Same holds true for the closing number “Can’t Help…”. I’m of the impression Elvis was in a hurry to get the hell out of the venue.
