I never thought I'd own one, but I had a gig tonight and my fretted MTD Heir is on the fritz, so now I've got a candy-apple red Squire P-J 4 string.

Emergency Squier Acquisition

Squier (Epiphone as well) is turning out some really good stuff - really really good considering the price points....am too old to care about what's on the headstock, if it plays well, it plays well, end of story.
Best part was it was for a gig at a place called the Squire.
I was the same way after owning a Fender Jazz & Precision, I refused to touch a Squier. I have a pretty nice LTD 5 string active emg's that I baby. I was wanting a 'leave out of the case', open-mic 4 string bass. looked at numerous basses. Then I saw it, I black on black Squier Jaguar vintage modified with the active bass boost. Nice straight neck, minimal light scratches, classy lines, for $150. It rode home with me. This one is several years old so it has settled down nicely. Its made as good as my previous fenders & sounds better than my Precision did.
I have a Squier Matt Freeman that I play more than my Fender MIA P. I just like the feel of the neck better (after I sanded the gloss off the back) and I think the pickups sound more vintage than on the MIA. I like it a lot. The MIA is a better bass overall, but not $900 better.
