EMG 40-DC vs Nordstrand Big Single

Recently I've been checking out the Ibanez SRT800DX which has EMG 40-DCs. I've always been a fan of EMGs in both my guitars and basses so naturally I love the sound and the eq on the bass is great. There are new Ibanez models (SR1200 and SR1400) coming out in the summer that I'm really interested in trying out. These new models have the classic SR neck which is a bit thinner than the SRTs neck I already know. The new SR coming out also has a mid switch as well as an eq switch. Has anyone tried both pickups OR even both brands for that matter. I'm just curious if they are world's apart in sound or they have possibilities to attain similar sounds.

Could you elaborate? I've grown accustom to liking the EMG PJs sound but the 40-DCs aren't bad either. Just haven't heard much of a comparison between EMG and Nordstrand overall in sound.

at times I have loved EMg's and others not so much. EMG's to me can equal high end harness and brittle. in a Spector bass they sound wonderful. I had an 80's jazz bass with them it was heaven..

I can agree with that. Sometimes the highs are too high and brittle as you put it. I just want to be able to get the lowest lows and super clean highs. That's why I've always gravitated towards EMGs but I can agree on what you're saying.

Cris there are many roads to your bliss when it comes pickups. I started playing bass in the 60's, so I have some experience.. I am not show boating here just saying enjoy the journey!

What is it about your current sound that you're not happy with?

They are very clear and commanding all the while sounding musical and delicious..

It's not that I'm unhappy with my sound. I just know I've liked my EMGs and I'm trying to decide on a new bass. The Ibanez SRT800DX (EMG 40-DCs) or the Ibanez SR1400 (Nordstrand Big Singles). I actually just got an e-mail back from Fodera today. I'm scheduling a visit.
