I figured I'd do a review since there is little info on this little device.
First off I have gone through my share of blends. A/C, M/N, 500k, 250k, ungrounded, even a 50k behind a bartolini buffer. I never really have been able to achieve the smooth blend I wanted.
I figured I'd give EMG's active blend control a shot. Ordered straight from emg. I was very impressed with the packaging. Install was pretty smooth. I was able to integrate some off the solderless cables into my existing harness. The provided volume looked like more trouble than it was worth, it's got like 8 terminals and no explanation of what they do, so I just dug out a 25k volume from my junk box of parts.
This blend was exactly what I was looking for. EMG nailed it with this one. Smoothest blend I have used on any bass. Gives you solo to solo and everything in between with no "weird" areas with sudden changes in tone. Also you get the bonus of no treble dimming that you get with passive blend/volume combo. I was a little worried with the front end impedance being only like 200K, but I didn't hear any loss of high end from the 500k volume and 250k unloaded blend. It does raise the overall noise floor a bit, but it's nothing major. About the same noise floor as my old OBP-3.
Highly recommend if you've been having problems getting a smooth blend. 50 bones is a bit much to drop on a blend, but if you've got wacky pickups that don't seem to want to blend well with normal blends, this is a great option.
